WHES Newsletter Update for September 2 - 6, 2024

Hello Westport Community,

This newsletter shares some important reminders:

Updates for each month of school are shared in a MONTHLY newsletter. The first section of this Heights Highlights Newsletter is dated for this week and shares new updates and highlights upcoming events, celebrations, or meetings.

Each month feel free to read just the portion called "This Week's Updates" and the remainder only if you did not read the entire newsletter yet. We are giving you the month to read it, but don't wait until the end of the month to read it or you might miss an important event!

The best way to get updated will be to use our school's Google Calendar together along with this newsletter, and regular teacher communication.

If you are new this school year, click this link for the COMMUNITY WELCOME LETTER which will help you navigate the first day of school and the basics for this school year. Please read and save this document for reference.

Let's have a great fourth week of school!

Kind regards,

Mrs. Hughes

Steps to Allow Your Child be Issued a Device

We are a one-to-one device school. (UTK - 3rd are issued iPads and 4th and 5th are issued Chromebooks.) Here is what families need to do for their children to be issued a school device.
  1. You will need to register on Parent Portal using your PIN, Child's Student ID, and date of birth if you have never done so before. Register here: https://achieve.lausd.net/Page/10470
  2. Your child and the parent/guardian need to sign and return the Responsible Use Policy (RUP) and other forms that are being sent home during the first week of school. You will need to complete District Device Permission forms in advance of your child receiving a device.

4th and 5th only: Your child needs to know their MyMail address ("xxxxxxx@mymail.lausd.net") and password to open the Chromebook. The teacher will provide this information to each student when they receive their device.

TK - 3rd only: Each student has their QR code to access Schoology given to them by their teacher.
