Bristow Run ES Panther Press
May 2024
From our Principal, Mrs. Jeck
Dear Panther Families,
It’s hard to believe that we are in our last month of the school year! This time of the year brings many exciting events for us to celebrate. Next week, we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, please take time to send your child’s teacher a note or gift of appreciation for all their hard work. Don’t forget our specialists and encore staff! If you need ideas for ways your child can show their appreciation, check out the flyer below.
This month we started our end of year SOL testing. Thank you to all staff and students for working hard and doing your best during testing. As we prepare to share SOL results later this month, please remember that SOL tests are only one measure of your child’s success in school. There are many other ways your child can be successful in the school environment!
As we plan to finish off another great school year and build towards a great 2024-2025 school year, let’s continue to strive to work hard, doing our best and being kind and caring to each other. There are many opportunities to attend special events, field trips and other end of year celebrations as we close out this year! Take time to read the entire newsletter and mark your calendars, I hope to see many of our families over the next several weeks!
Your Partner in Education,
Mrs. Jeck

Bristow Run Other Updates and News
Author Visits BRES!
By Rising Reporters Keilani, Laila, and Zubair
On April 22, Author, Shannon Anderson, visited all students at Bristow Run during an assembly to talk about her job and to persuade us to write our own story. She wrote the book "Through the Hoop." She loves writing. She got to meet the person who wrote “Can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man!” She loves being a teacher! She loves teaching through writing. She used to work at a children’s library. The first time she tried to get her article in a magazine they said no. She tried a second time, and they said no because it was too long. She made it shorter, therefore, her article was published.
She even trained her dog how to jump through a hoop! She made a book on to never give up. The book "I am not a pirate" is about her daughter who only used one eye because the other stopped working together with the other one. "Coasting Casey" is about her student who had a challenging time learning. "Too Shy to say Hi" is about a student who is too shy to make a friend. Her book “I love strawberries” is about a girl named Jolie and teaches us to never give up! The book "Nicken chuggets" is about playing with words.
Shannon Anderson loves to encourage kindness! Her book "Heroes don’t have to fly" was inspired by a bird her daughter drew. She also wrote "Yay you failed: A Growth mindset book." She taught us the following steps:
Read
Write
Learn from others
Never give up!
We loved having Shannon Anderson visit!
