10/4/26 Baker Bulletin
Happy Sunday, Baker Families!
We hope you all had a wonderful weekend, even with all the rain! It looks like cooler weather is settling in, and we couldn't be happier!
Trunk or Treat
Our Trunk or Treat event is coming up soon! Please see the information below for details, including how you can help us prepare. We would love to have your support to make this a fun night for our Baker community.
Fall Break
A reminder that Fall Break is coming up! There will be no school on October 9, 12, and 13. Students will return on October 14. Please check the upcoming dates section below for details.
Drop-Off and Dismissal Safety
We need your help keeping our students safe. We've noticed several students being dropped off on Bluewood Road or in the parking lot instead of going through the carpool/drop-off lane. We understand traffic can be slow at times, but dropping students off in these areas requires them to walk between moving cars to reach the building, and this puts their safety at risk. Please use the designated carpool/drop-off lane every time, even if it means waiting a few extra minutes. Thank you for helping us keep every child safe.
Please see all of the other important details below for more information on what's coming up soon.
Let's have another great week, Baker Families!

Mass Screening Date
Dear Baker Families,
To support our students' health and success, Baker Elementary will be conducting state-mandated health screenings during the school day on October 7, 2026. These routine checks help us identify potential vision, hearing, or health concerns early so every child can thrive in the classroom!
Screening Schedule by Grade Level:
1st, 3rd, & 5th Grade: Vision, Hearing, and Risk Assessment for Type 2 Diabetes
Kindergarten & Students New to the District (2nd & 4th Grade): Vision and Hearing
A Quick Reminder for Parents: If your child wears glasses or contact lenses, please make sure they wear or bring them to school on screening day so we can get the most accurate results.
If any screenings indicate that a child might need further evaluation, Nurse Wilson will follow up directly with families by sending a referral letter home.
Nurse Wilson is always here to partner with you in keeping our students healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Please don't hesitate to reach out to the clinic if you have any questions!
The candy monsters are back and they are HUNGRY!

Reminder: Prosper ISD Personal Communication Device Policy
Baker Parents and Guardians,
We want to share a reminder about our district's policy on personal communication devices, which includes cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, and any other electronic device capable of communication.
What the Policy Says:
Students are not permitted to access or use a personal communication device on school property during the school day. This means a device shouldn't be kept on a student's person or otherwise within easy reach during the school day — even if it's turned off, in airplane mode, or not actively being used. Under this policy, simply having the device readily accessible is treated the same as using it.
We understand many families rely on these devices to coordinate pickup, after-school plans, or simply for peace of mind. If your child needs to reach you, or you need to reach your child, our front office is always happy to help pass along a message. You may reach our office team at 945-678-2100.
Are There Any Exceptions?
Yes. A student may be authorized to have and use a personal communication device during the school day if:
- The device is necessary to implement the student's IEP, 504 plan, or a similar plan;
- The student has a documented medical need based on a directive from a qualified physician; or
- The device is necessary to comply with a health or safety requirement under law or district/campus safety protocols.
If your child falls into one of these categories, please get in touch with our front office so we can work with you to ensure the right arrangements are in place.
What Happens if a Device Is Found?
If a student is found with a personal communication device outside of these exceptions, the device will be confiscated by school staff. The device will be stored securely, and we'll let you know how and when it can be picked up.
We appreciate your partnership as we work together to create a focused, supportive learning environment for all students.
A La Carte Items at Lunch
As partners in your child’s education, we strive to encourage healthy choices and ensure all students have adequate time to enjoy their lunch. To support consistent cafeteria procedures and balanced habits, please review the following guidelines regarding lunchtime purchases.
Cafeteria Purchase Order Procedure Campus staff cannot restrict what a student chooses to eat, but all students must follow the District's standard cafeteria purchase sequence:
Meal First: Students need to obtain their complete lunch from the main meal service line before purchasing ice cream, desserts, or other Ă la carte items.
Consumption: Students are not required to finish their meal before buying an Ă -la-carte item; this procedure only applies to the order in which items are obtained.
Parental Meal Account Restrictions: Under Prosper ISD policy and state guidelines, only parents and guardians hold the authority to set financial or dietary restrictions on cafeteria accounts. If you wish to limit your child's purchases (e.g., establishing daily spending caps, limiting Ă -la-carte options, or restricting ice cream), you can set these rules directly through the district:
Visit the Prosper ISD Homepage.
Navigate to Departments (or District Services) and select Child Nutrition.
Click on Meal Account Restrictions in the side menu (also accessible via Parent Resources or the My School Bucks page).
Complete the form to establish your preferences, such as No À-La-Carte, Cash Only À-La-Carte, or specific daily limits.
Questions regarding purchasing procedures or Ă -la-carte options may be directed to Child Nutrition personnel at child-nutrition@prosper-isd.net. Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students' well-being!
Hats on Campus (Baker)
Per district policy, hats are generally not permitted on campus unless designated by individual school leadership. Here at Baker, our designated day for students to wear hats is Fridays.
Please note that certain students may have individualized campus plans or arrangements that permit them to wear hats on other days of the week. These approved exceptions will continue as outlined in those specific plans.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a consistent, supportive environment for all students!
