A Message from your Principal, Mrs. Katie Johnson
Today our school practiced our Active Threat-Run/Hide/Fight plan with our local police department as part of our ongoing safety procedures. This type of drill helps prepare our students and staff for potential emergencies and ensures that everyone knows how to respond appropriately in such situations.
I am pleased to report that our students performed exceptionally well during the drill. They followed instructions calmly and efficiently, demonstrating their understanding of the procedures. I am proud of our commitment to safety and their ability to handle challenging situations.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our school community.
Respectfully,
Katie Johnson

A Message from the Learning Resource Center (LRC)
Dear Parents,
I am so excited to have had the opportunity to meet with all of our students! In the library, we have been exploring our new space, reading great stories and discussing expectations.
Here are a few things that may come up throughout the year:
When is my child’s library day?
Elizabeth Ide is on a rotating, day 1-5, schedule. As a rule of thumb, I have been telling students to return their book as soon as they are finished with it so they can check out more books. In Kindergarten, students may have 1 book out at a time; in 1st grade, 2 books; and in 2nd grade, 3 books.
Has my child returned their book?
If at any time, you are wondering if your student has returned his/her book, feel free to contact me.
What if I return Elizabeth Ide books to the public library? (It happens!)
The books will eventually find their way back into our hands.
What if the book is lost/damaged? (It happens!)
You can contact me and I will let you know what the replacement fee is so we can get the book back on the shelf.
What if I want to volunteer in the library? (Because it is so much fun in the library!)
Reach out to me and I will send a form home.
Ok, so how do I contact you?
You can email me at rhendron@ccsd66.org. This is the best way to reach me and I will always reply promptly.
I’m looking forward to a wonderful year with your student(s)!
Sincerely,
Gina Hendron
Artsonia!
The Art Room has been busy with creativity!
As students complete their first projects in Art, we’d like to document and share our work with you by using a free digital portfolio called Artsonia. Artsonia is a way for your child to share their artwork with family online and create a digital Art portfolio of their masterpieces while at Elizabeth Ide and Prairieview Elementary Schools.
Artsonia will be managed by Ms. Smeltzer, (Art teacher), in a safe and educational manner. All we need is your permission to include your child’s artwork on our school’s web gallery on Artsonia. Students will learn the preparations and responsibilities involved in displaying their art and developing a digital portfolio for themselves, (Ms. Smeltzer photographs Kindergarten’s artwork).
If you have any questions/concerns, please feel free to contact Ms. Smeltzer at tsmeltzer@ccsd66.org.
Caught Reading - Still Accepting Pictures
We're creating a special display at IDE to showcase the love of reading in our community. Can you help us capture this magic? If you see your child reading, snap a picture and email it to Meghan Aleo. Include the child's first and last name in the email.
Together, let's show the importance of getting lost in a good book!
Send in pictures ASAP!
