The Cohasset Compass
Ever Onward ~ Moving Our Schools Into the Future
October 16, 2025
Dear Cohasset Public Schools Community,
In the Cohasset Public Schools, the Skipper Creed guides how we all show up and interact as part of a school-based, and larger, community. This includes how students interact with one another and their teachers, how teachers interact with students and colleagues, and how educators and families interact as well. It also includes how we show up for our students over email, at meetings and school events. Every email exchange, meeting, sporting event, concert, theatrical performance, arts showcase, and open house is an opportunity to model what it means to Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.
In addition to the Skipper Creed, CPS is also embracing The Dignity Index which is based on the principle that "each one of us is born with inherent worth, so we treat everyone with dignity—no matter what." This takes our Skipper Creed one step further and exemplifies how we should speak, act, and engage with one another.
So far, our high school faculty and students have been introduced to and are using The Dignity Index as have the School Committee. As our rollout continues, it will be done using the age-appropriate versions of the index so we can build our students skills to engage in conversation and behavior that honors their own dignity, worth, and value as well as that of their peers.
Given the introduction of The Dignity Index, we are refreshing and recommitting to the Skipper Creed and will be rolling out specifics of what it looks like to follow the Skipper Creed in different spaces within our school community. Below is a preview of The Skipper Creed posters you will begin to see around the district. We hope that you will join us in upholding the Skipper Creed, along with our students, and adopting the Dignity Index and striving to use language, especially in emotionally fraught situations, that honors the dignity and worth of all individuals, even when our perspectives may not be aligned.
Ever Onward,
Sarah

Celebrating National School Principals' Month!
We are excited, during the month of October, to celebrate our school principals and assistant principals. Running a school is an honor and a joy; it is also a 24/7 position that requires hard work, patience, and some significant problem-solving skills. Fortunately, Cohasset has some of the best school administrators in the business. Please join me in expressing gratitude that Brian Scott, Kate Darling, John Scopeletti, Kata Salas, Alex Sullivan, and Amy Gaudette are who we have guiding our schools and working with our staff and children.
What Expertise Can YOU Offer Our Students?
Cohasset is a community comprised of experts in a wide variety of fields. In order to deliver more authentic, hands-on, project-based learning experiences to students, the Cohasset School Committee, in collaboration with district leadership, is working to develop a "Community Resource Guide." This Guide will serve as an invaluable resource to our classroom teachers and school staff, as it will provide them with a comprehensive database of all stakeholders and interested parties who are willing to share their background, experience, and expertise in furtherance of our mission to Empower Students to Improve Communities.
There are many different ways in which one might participate in this endeavor, including classroom presentations, hosting or facilitating field trips, creating shadow or internship opportunities, or assisting with project-based learning experiences.
If you are willing to share your unique talents, passions, interests, and/or expertise, please click this link to fill out a brief interest form. We thank you for your willingness to volunteer your time in order to deliver impactful learning experiences to CPS students.
