Mill Valley Weekly
September 19th, 2024
Hello Mill Valley Families,
As we embrace September, it's a wonderful time to experience the simple joys of the season. Consider planning a fun family activity like apple picking—it’s a great way to connect and enjoy our beautiful weather. Also, as the school year begins, we encourage you to find time to open a book together. Reading as a family not only fosters a love of learning but also creates special moments of connection.
At this point we have 35% of our students registered for our Read-a-Thon. You can register your student HERE. As a school, we have read a total of 2,486 minutes! Keep logging those reading minutes and raising funds for our PTO.

Help Your Child Succeed in School:
Build the Habit of Good Attendance Early
What You Can Do...
• Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before
• Keep your child healthy and make sure your child has the required shots
• Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up (call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent)
• Try to schedule non-urgent related medical appointments and extended trips when school isn’t in session
• If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors and other parents for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning
• If you are concerned that your child may have a contagious illness, call your school or health care provider for advice
• If your child must stay home due to illness, ask the teacher for resources and ideas to continue learning at home

Summer Library Books
If your student checked out library books over the summer from Mill Valley, please return them when possible.
Destination Imagination
We are so excited to kick off a new season of Destination Imagination (DI) in the Muskego Norway School District! DI is an international program that allows kids of all ages to be involved in creative problem-solving. If you participate in DI, you will join a small team with other students from your building to solve an open-ended problem, or “challenge,” and then present your solution at a tournament.
**Would your child like to be involved in DI? Before nominating your child, please consider if your child has any of the following criteria:
motivated learner
likes challenges
creative thinker
enjoys expressing self orally
likes to write creatively
likes to draw and make things
**Would you consider being a coach (team manager) and spending more time with your child?
As a coach, your role is to give direction, not to solve the actual problem. The students are to solve the problem as a team.
You will organize meeting dates and times for a team of students to work on the problem in person after school hours or on the weekends.
Please click this link to a Parent Handout with additional information.
HOW DOES A STUDENT JOIN?
Click here for online registration form due Monday, September 30, 2024
In order to participate in the event, ALL 2nd, 3rd, & 4th graders must fill out THIS WAIVER.
Students who do not fill out the waiver will be able to watch the events, but not participate.
Free & Reduced Meals
USDA announced that all meals will go back paid, reduced, or free based on income status for the 2024-25 school year. The school district needs parents to fill out a free or reduced-price meal application regardless of if your family qualified in the past. District funding depends on the paid/free/reduced levels as well as there are programs that benefit. Applications with instructions to apply for free and reduced-price meals can be found at Free and Reduced-Price Meals Application 2024-2025.
Be sure to fill out all required information. Return the completed application to: Muskego-Norway Food Service Department, W183 S8750 Racine Ave, Muskego, WI 53150.
Children need healthy meals to learn. Muskego Norway School District will offer healthy lunches every school day.
PTO Sponsored Birthday Table
Thursday, September 26th is the August & September Birthday Table!
Once a month, PTO will decorate a special table in the lunchroom to celebrate your student's birthday! Feel free to join them!
