Vision, Hearing, and Spinal Screening Cert

  • If you already have a vision/hearing certificate and it expires in 2021, you will need to sign up for one of the last recertification classes with Paul Gonzalez. They are found online here. You will need to click "Next" at the bottom of the first 2 pages to find it. Your practicum (hands-on) portion will need to be completed before 12/31/22. I will start having more sessions for this after the new year.
  • The last "newbies" vision and hearing sessions of the semester will be Friday, October 29th from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Both in one day! If you still have staff (or volunteers, family, friends) who want this class, get them to sign up on escWorks. Anyone with a high school degree can take it.
  • Spinal screening training is still not an option. I am asking DSHS to please send us a trainer or to allow me to become a trainer so that it can be offered. Fingers crossed!
  • If you're unsure when any of your certifications expires, email paul.gonzalez@dshs.texas.gov and he will check for you.

COVID testing 2.0

As of September 29, 2021, John Hellerstedt, M.D., Commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services, has issued a standing delegation order (SDO) for participating public & private school systems in the new COVID-19 the testing program for the 2021-2022 school year. The Standing Delegation Order only authorizes the use of antigen tests for participating public and private school systems. In many cases, though not all, vendors have a standing or individual order in place for PCR testing. This Vendor Resource Sheet provides additional detail regarding standing delegation orders or individual orders for PCR tests, by the vendor.

    • The document includes the following details:
      • Authorization details
      • Eligibility
    • Facility Requirements
    • Tester Requirements

TEA has provided school systems with several resources, tools, and guidance documents on our website.

All of the documents are updated regularly as new information becomes available.
