VIKING CLASS OF THE WEEK
This week there are 3 classes!
Mr. Porcelli recognized 6A a few weeks back for a Veterans Day activity during Social Studies. During this class, we learned about the tomb of the unknown soldier. The students then were given the opportunity to ask questions and engage in a classroom discussion. They had great questions and were very engaged and thoughtful during this class.
For this week, Mrs. Zoske shared 6b has done an amazing job of reading "The Phantom Tollbooth" in ELA. They are reading with enthusiasm and excitement. The shared reading experience has been a great learning environment. Keep up the great work!
Also for this week, Mrs. Rumbaugh would like to recognize the 8th grade class for their respect and engagement this week at Willowbrook High School. We are so proud of your representation of AMS, and are very excited for all of the opportunities that lie ahead for you in high school.
Congratulations again to 6A, 6B, and 8th graders on your achievements!

ON-SITE VOLUNTARY TESTING FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF
Dear Salt Creek School District 48 Families,
District 48 is pleased to add on-site, weekly RT-PCR COVID-19 testing to our layered mitigations for our students and staff. We are still working on finalizing the testing schedule, but we expect to have that information to begin offering screening testing very soon.
All COVID-19 testing is voluntary, and only individuals who have provided consent to participate will be eligible to test. While fully vaccinated individuals are exempt from routine screening testing per CDC recommendations, anyone who provides consent may participate in the testing program. Providing consent does not require any individual to participate. For example, parents of a fully vaccinated student may choose to provide consent to participate now but can have the student refrain from participating in weekly testing. That student can still test in the event of a close contact, outbreak, or symptom later on because they have provided consent. Students who do not have a signed consent on file will not be eligible for testing at school.
Registration is now open to sign up to participate:
For Albright Middle School, click here to register.
For Salt Creek Primary School, click here to register.
For Stella May Swartz Elementary School, click here to register.
Once a student is tested, regardless of the outcome, the results are reported to the school and to the parent/guardian. Additionally, test results are required to be reported to the Illinois Department of Public Health. If a student tests positive, then we collaborate in our contact tracing efforts with the DuPage County Health Department. For positive test results, you will receive both a phone call and an email from Northshore Clinical with the results. For negative test results, then you will receive only an email. Results are typically received within 24 hours.
Testing is provided at no cost to participants or District 48. COVID-19 testing is covered 100% by all insurance companies with no deductible, co-pays, coinsurance, or any other out-of-pocket expense. For individuals without insurance, the cost is covered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The testing will either be an anterior nares swab (it goes less than 3/4 inch into the nose) or buccal (cheek) swab. In either test, this is not the nasopharyngeal swab that goes deep into the nasal cavity.
COVID CARD UPDATES
It is important to have proof of your student’s COVID-19 vaccination on file for contact tracing purposes. For example, if your student is identified as a close contact in a positive COVID-19 case, but they are vaccinated and remain asymptomatic, they will be cleared to remain in school. This also applies to situations where the student’s sibling exhibits possible COVID-19 symptoms: if your student without symptoms is vaccinated and remains asymptomatic, they may remain in school. If your student’s vaccination status is not documented in their file, we will assume they are not vaccinated and follow the IDPH COVID-19 Protocol accordingly.
If your student has completed their COVID-19 vaccination, please email a copy of the card to the School Nurse or upload the vaccination into Skyward using the instructions below.

FTC
FTC Cares
FTC Cares is a program run by FTC that assists district families in need, as identified by district staff. Since its inception in 2013, FTC has provided holiday meals for 54 families and Walmart gift cards for over 30 families.
This year we are changing things up a bit. We are going to support our families by giving them gift cards for gas, GFS or Dollar Tree to help with the rising cost of everyday items. This program is entirely donation driven, so the number of families helped will depend on the donations received.
How can you help? You can purchase gift cards to any gas station, GFS or Dollar Tree in $25 increments, or you can send a cash or a check made payable to FTC in an envelope marked "FTC Cares" to your child's school by Friday, December 17th. You visit www.saltcreek48ftc.org and make a donation online. You must log in or create an account first. Please see the attached flyer for more details or contact Melissa White (mwhite@saltccreek48.org). Thank you in advance for your generosity!!
Spirit Wear Sale
Want to show your school spirit? Check out our new spirit wear shop! There are a variety of options for all three schools. Please note that the youth sizes are first followed by adult sizes. The shop will close at midnight on Tuesday, November 30, and all orders will be sent home with your child about 3 weeks after that. Mask Fundraiser
The mask fundraiser order form will remain open until Dec. 10 to ensure delivery can be made by the holidays. A handmade, customized mask makes a great gift or stocking stuffer. Order one from the many holiday fabrics available to celebrate the season - or select a neutral or children's fabric for everyday use. Masks come in three different styles: fitted, pleated and 3D and cost just $5, with specialty masks costing $7 All proceeds from masks go to FTC. Please contact Holly Sloan at hsloan@saltcreek48.org with questions. Order your masks here!
AmazonSmile
Do you shop at Amazon a lot? Did you know they offer a small percentage of eligible orders to be donated to a charity of your choice? FTC is a charity that can receive donations if account holders set it up to do so! All you have to do is shop as you normally would. If any of the items are eligible for AmazonSmile donations, FTC will receive the money that is paid out a few times per year. Even better? All of the money in turn supports our schools and children. It's a win win!
To get started from the app, go to the main menu and tap on the 'settings' icon (≡). Go to the Programs and Features heading and tap the V See all. Scroll down and tap AmazonSmile. There you will be able to search for Salt Creek School District 48 Families Teachers Children in Villa Park, IL. If you are using the website, start your shopping at smile.amazon.com. You will be prompted to add a charity. It's that easy! It may seem that .5% of your purchase is not a lot, but you would be surprised to see how quickly it adds up when we work together to support our great district. Thanks for helping!!
