Some thoughts for the starting school year
Welcome back Mustangs!
Dear Irving Families,
I hope you've had a wonderful summer and found time to relax, make memories, and enjoy being together as a family. As the beginning of school approaches, there is a great deal of excitement here at Irving. We are so excited to have you as part of our Irving family.
There has been a lot happening behind the scenes to get ready for another incredible year. Everyone is excited to welcome our students back.
Our theme this year is Just Keep Swimming, Just Keep Learning. Irving was chosen by Disney to receive a grant to help us produce a school musical in the Spring of 2026. A special shout out to Alex Lovel, 1st grade teacher, and Tyler Walls, music teacher, as they were the ones who helped spearhead this opportunity and help bring it to life. Irving will be putting on FINDING NEMO-KIDS in May of 2027. Our theme ties together this incredible opportunity to get our students exposed and part of musical theater while at the same time, learning and growing in the classroom. It is our hope that this will be the beginning of an annual musical production here at Irving School.
We will continue working on infusing Respectful, Responsible, and Safe into everything that we do. These are the three traits that our students work to maintain and share each and every day, both in school, at home and in the community—they're the foundation of the positive culture we work to create every day. We want every child to feel seen, valued, challenged, and excited to come to school.
It is truly an honor to serve as your principal. Thank you for trusting us with your children each day. I can't wait to welcome our Mustangs back and begin another year of learning, laughter, and growth.
Here's to an amazing school year!

Dismissal Information
We appreciate your patience during dismissal. For the safety of all students, staff, and family members, it is important that we know how your child is getting home from school each day. Dismissal begins at 3:10pm and students must be picked up by 3:30pm. We understand plans can change, but we ask that you try to remain as consistent as possible to avoid confusion and drastically improve efficiency.
- The office staff are not able to accommodate changes in the dismissal status of your student(s) after 2:00pm. In the event of a last minute emergency, you may contact us but, please be patient and flexible.
- K-2 students that are parent pick up will be escorted to their designated spot on the playground fence at the end of each day to be handed off to their parent or guardian.
- Bus riders are escorted to the gym and walk out as a group once the bus arrives.
- Daycare van riders are escorted to the pickup spot on the north end of the building.
We want to make sure that ALL of our students know their plan to go home each day. It is best to keep this consistent without changes so the child knows the routine.
Thank you so much for your support and patience.

School Resource Officer
Meet Officer Doage, better known as "Officer Nick." He is the District 87 resource officer for all the elementary schools. You will see him at our school events, dismissal and arrival, visiting classrooms, in the cafeteria, and in and around the entire school. He cares deeply for our students and wants to build relationships while helping to keep our schools safe. If you see him, please say hello!
Security Reminder
School safety is a high priority at District 87. In order to best protect our students, visitors, and staff, we have a system to track who comes in and out of our buildings. It is IMPORTANT that ALL visitors will be REQUIRED to show and scan a valid, government-issued ID upon entry into the building. There is a kiosk in the office that is easy to use and our assistants will help you sign in. All visitors will be given a sticker with their photo printed on it to wear while in the building. Once you have completed your visit, you will return the sticker to the office and sign out.
We are dedicated to these security measures in order to keep our students and staff SAFE. It may seem to be inconvenient, but it is crucial that we know who is in our building at all times. Thank you for your help in keep our building safe and secure.

We are a Promise Council School
Irving has an established Promise Council that helps support students and staff throughout the school year. They are able to provide help for students with physical needs that stand in the way of academic achievement, support staff with additional supplies and snacks for the classroom and helping to provide mentors for our students.
