District News from the Fairview Park City Schools

A Message from Superintendent Keith Ahearn
As we move through this busy time of year, it is easy to get caught up in scratching items off our to-do lists as we focus on the next deadline, the next event to attend, and the constant pull of what comes next, sometimes at the expense of enjoying the moment.
The late American educator, author, and businessman Stephen Covey, reminded us, “the key is not spending time, but investing it.” This distinction matters. Investing our time implies that we are acting with purpose and intention.
It is the reason “reflection” is one of the nine skills that are part of our portrait of a graduate. We believe reflection allows students, staff, and leaders to pause, make meaning of experiences, learn from challenges, and gain confidence moving forward. It is how effort leads to growth and experiences turn into learning.
This time of year provides an opportunity to reflect on what we have accomplished and make note of opportunities for improvement. When we take time to reflect, we invest in ourselves and our futures.
Thank you for your investment in the Fairview Park City Schools. I wish you and your families all the best of the holiday season.
Fairview Girls Locker Room Renovated With Community Support
The Fairview High School girls' locker room received a long-awaited overhaul this year, thanks to funding from an anonymous donor and the all-volunteer Fairview Park Athletic Club.
The $23,000 locker room renovation was funded through a combined effort, including $13,597 from an anonymous Fairview Park donor, $5,000 from the Fairview Park Athletic Club, and $5,000 from the district.
Over the last two years, the Fairview Park Athletic Club and the anonymous donor have contributed more than $67,000 to Fairview Athletics and the student-athlete experience at FHS.
Veterans Day Flag Project Unites Gilles-Sweet Students in Gratitude
This Veterans Day, students at Gilles-Sweet Elementary School came together to create a powerful tribute to those who served in the U.S. military.
Beginning in late October, students learned about the importance of Veterans Day and those who served by creating a large Veterans Day flag mural. The flag, approximately 64 square feet in size, took about two weeks to complete and was proudly displayed in the building before Veterans Day.
Three Middle School Students Recognized as Winners of We Do Care Essay Contest
In November, three Lewis F. Mayer Middle School seventh grade students — Anna Kreps, Kaleb Kish, and Julius Carden — were honored by the City of Fairview Park as winners of the annual We Do Care God and Country essay writing contest.
The students were recognized at the Nov. 3 Fairview Park City Council meeting, where they read their letters before city officials, veterans, and community members.
This year, all sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students at Mayer Middle School participated in the writing contest. Approximately 300 entries were given to the We Do Care committee for their consideration.
Help Students Thrive by Donating to the PTA Warrior PRIDE Fund
From classroom supplies to student opportunities, the Fairview Park PTA’s Warrior PRIDE Fund is turning compassion into action. Now in its second year, the fund continues to connect community generosity with real-world support for students and teachers alike.
Fundraising for the Warrior PRIDE Fund is underway once again in 2025, as the Fairview Park PTA works to expand its support across the district. The campaign began on Giving Tuesday, December 2, and continues through New Year’s Day 2026.
Parkview's "Turkey Tots" Puts New Spin on Thanksgiving Tradition
For more than a decade, students at Parkview Early Education Center have raced into Thanksgiving week with the annual Turkey Trot, an outdoor run around the back field. This year, the longtime tradition got a new twist - and a new name - better suited for its youngest participants.
Dubbed “Turkey Tots,” the reimagined event brought preschoolers, childcare and DAP students, and toddlers together indoors for a morning of movement, music, and laughter.
