Principal Points

Dear Roosevelt Families,

February is in full swing, and even with chilly temperatures outside, our classrooms continue to be warm, welcoming, and filled with learning. I always enjoy walking through the halls and seeing students engaged, working together, and showing pride in their efforts each day.

At Roosevelt, we continue to emphasize our school-wide expectations: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. These three simple but powerful expectations guide everything we do—from the classroom to the cafeteria, the playground, and the hallways. Our students have been doing a wonderful job demonstrating these behaviors and supporting one another in making our school a positive place for everyone.

One of the ways we celebrate students who consistently demonstrate our “3 Bs” is through our Pawsome Tickets. Students can earn a Pawsome Ticket when staff members notice them being respectful, responsible, or safe. These tickets recognize positive choices and help reinforce the behaviors that create a strong, caring school community. It has been so fun to see students’ excitement and pride when they are recognized for doing the right thing—even when no one is watching!

You can help reinforce these expectations at home by asking your child how they showed respect, responsibility, or safety during their school day. These simple conversations help students see that the values we practice at school are important everywhere.

As always, thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students.

YOUTH MAKING A DIFFERENCE YOUTH MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Youth Making a Difference is a program that encourages and recognizes volunteer efforts by K-12 students to create positive social change, drive community service, and develop leadership skills.

Some students visit senior citizens, help collect money for the Livonia Goodfellows, or rake leaves at their schools. Other activities include school or community projects. Livonia PTSA Council recognizes the efforts of these students at the annual Youth Making a Difference celebration. FORMS DUE FEBRUARY 27

Car Loop- We Need Your Help! Car Loop- We Need Your Help!

User uploaded image

We would like to give a big shout-out to our families who consistently pull all the way up in the car loop—thank you! Your help truly makes a difference.

As a reminder and a favor we are asking of all car loop families: on these bitterly cold days, pulling all the way forward instead of stopping close to the door helps our process move quickly and efficiently. While our cars have heat, our staff and students are working hard outside, and getting students into the warm building as quickly as possible is important for everyone.

To help with this:

  • Please pull all the way up in the car loop before your child exits the vehicle.

  • Students only may exit the vehicle in the car loop. This helps ensure safety and keeps traffic moving smoothly.

  • If you would like to exit your vehicle for a goodbye hug or to walk your child in, please park first. The car loop is designed for quick drop-offs only.

Thank you for your cooperation, patience, and partnership in keeping our students safe and our mornings running smoothly—especially during these cold winter days!

4 SIMPLE WAYS TO BUILD CONFIDENCE IN YOUR CHILDREN

1. “I Can Do Hard Things” Challenge

Create small, achievable challenges for your child each week:

  • Learning to zip their coat independently

  • Reading a slightly harder book

  • Trying a new food

  • Practicing math facts

Celebrate the effort, not perfection.

2. Confidence Jar

Keep a jar or container where your child can add notes about:

  • Something they learned

  • A goal they achieved

  • A time they helped someone

At the end of the week, read the notes together and celebrate their growth.

3. Family “Shout-Out” Time

At dinner or bedtime, take turns sharing:

  • Something you are proud of

  • Something your child did well

This helps children recognize their strengths and feel valued.

4. Let Them Lead

Give your child opportunities to be “in charge” of small tasks:

  • Planning a family game

  • Choosing the book for bedtime

  • Helping cook or set the table

  • Organizing their backpack

Responsibility builds independence—and independence builds confidence.
