WETWANG CE PRIMARY SCHOOL
12TH SEPTEMBER 2025
WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL
I'd like to welcome you all back to our new school year. We hope that you all managed to find a little time for some relaxation and fun over the summer period, and if you were able to get away, that you had a memorable time.
It has been lovely to see our existing children and new starters coming to school eager to learn and happy to see their friends and staff again.
The children have all settled back remarkably well after two school weeks back and we would like to thank you for helping to prepare them so well.
We'd also like to welcome Mrs Colombari, our new admin assitsant, to the federation. Mrs Columbari will be based at Sledmere, but you may speak to her when you call on the telephone.
Mr Richardson
CHRISTIAN VALUE THIS HALF -TERM
We are proud to be a Church of England school
Out vision is, 'Learning and growing in the love of God' (1 John 4:16)
We focus on one Christian value each half-term. This term, the focus of collective worship and wider school activiites is on 'Friendship.'
NEW LEARNING
The pupils have returned with a thirst for learning. We have exciting new topics with key drivers from history.
Please look out for homework from the class teachers and support your child's learning with spellings, KIRFS and regular reading.
Should you have any questions about learning, please speak to the class teacher at the end of the day or make an appointment to see them via the school office.
CLASS 1 AND PRE-SCHOOL - 'What was school like in Victorian times?'
CLASS 3 - 'What was the Roman legacy in Britain?'
ATTENDANCE
Good attendance is vital for your child's education and future success, supporting their learning, social development, and future employment prospects. Children only get one chance at school, and poor attendance can lead to difficulties keeping up with school work and making friendships Setting good attendance patterns from an early age will also benefit them in future employment.
Our recent attendance figures are:
• Class 1: 98%
• Class 2: 96%
• Class 3: 99%
Please be aware of government expectations regarding school attendance and potential fines:
• Fines for unauthorised absence during term time are £80, increasing to £160 if not paid within 21 days. These are issued per parent per child by East Riding Council.
• A fine may be considered if a pupil misses 10 sessions (5 days) of unauthorised absence within a 10-school-week rolling period. This can include any combination of unauthorised absence, such as four sessions of term-time absence plus six instances of arriving late. Councils retain discretion to issue fines even before this threshold is met if parents are deliberately avoiding it.
• Schools share daily attendance data with the government via an electronic management information system (Arbor).
• Schools also inform local authorities of sick pupils expected to miss 15 consecutive or cumulative days, and notify social workers or youth offending teams for unexplained absences.
We are particularly mindful of pupils absent due to mental or physical ill health or special educational needs and/or disabilities, and we provide additional support. While normal difficult emotions can make children nervous about attending, regular attendance is still expected, as it can often help with the underlying issue.
If you have any queries about attendance, please contact Mr Richardson via the school office. Thank you for your support with school attendance.
Do I need to keep my child off school?
