Social Studies/Estudios Sociales

6th grade/Sexto

This month the sixth graders have been working on an interesting project called “Create your own country”. The imaginary country had to be based on a real country, after carrying out research on issues such as relief, climate, population or vegetation. The excellent results were exhibited at an event in the library of our school, which was attended by several families as well as members of the staff. In this way, our students had fun while demonstrating everything they have learned about Geography essentials.

7th grade/Séptimo

This month students finished the second unit: First Civilizations. We learned about how the first civilizations in Mesopotamia came to be and then each grade created their own civilization. We are beginning our unit on Ancient Egypt. Students will work on a research project and families will be invited to an exhibit at the end of January.

8th grade/Octavo

Students are finishing up the Causes of the Revolution Unit. They worked on posters about the laws parliament passed on the colonies. They have done a simulation of the Boston Massacre trial in which students took on the roles of lawyers, witnesses, and members of the jury. We are going to be looking at the Declaration of Independence soon to finish off the unit and then will start our unit on the Formation of the U.S. government by first looking at where our ideas of government came from. To do that we will learn about Enlightenment philosophers such as Hobbes, Locke, and Montesquieu.

7th grade/Séptimo

The sevenths began their first book of the year “Taking a Party”. Students are making rapid progress in reading and participating in discussion about the events and challenges a young man faces being a new student and the star of the basketball team.

8th grade/Octavo

In celebration of Thanksgiving each student created a gratitude mug. They did such a beautiful job! Featured in the pictures are students competing in basketball in a grammar review game of the preterite tense. The intensity grew as the game progressed.

We are beginning our study of the imperfect and then will do a comparison of the preterite vs the imperfect tenses.

Additionally, we are continuing our reading of the book, Nacer bailando. We have read and discussed about ⅓ of the book. In January, we will begin our unit on Friendship. Have a happy and safe Winter Break!
