Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
April 11, 2025
It has been a solemn week at Lutherville.
Alongside so many of you, we have ebbed and flowed on the waves of grief as they hit us. The loss of Bailee and Serenity has been devastating and unimaginable. Along with their loss has come the compounding effect of the pain our students bear confronting death and injustice. And then the reverberations felt by the community in supporting their children, classmates, and friends through the loss.
This morning we were reminded in conversation with some community members that grief can look different and pace differently for each of us, and for each child. Meeting each other with empathy, verbally recognizing how hard things are ("This is hard. Loss is hard."), and finding time to be with children in their preferred activities and allowing that comfort to bring about the opportunity to share (or just be close), can be deeply helpful.
Our spirits were lifted this week through the Drama Club's powerful performance on Tuesday morning, putting sound and song to the human experience and resilience. Among many touching memories and stories shared this week came a particularly moving one from Ms. Reid. She shared a note and drawing that the girls, who grew close with her while she was at Lutherville, had mailed to her at her home school. On the picture were lyrics from Benson Boone's "In the Stars." Many of us have, since, had cathartic tears brought out by listening to that song, one more gift from these two special young ladies.
Below is an image we're passing along from Bailee's family, who will host a Celebration of Life for her on Thursday, April 17th. Details are shared below. In time, as families, friends, and loved ones are ready, we will continue to share additional memorial opportunities as they develop.
We wish all our Lutherville families and community a restful and rejuvenating break. We look forward to seeing our Leopard Family again on Tuesday, April 22nd.
In Partnership,
Mr. McComb
p.s. Attached at the bottom of the newsletter is public notice of lead testing in water at Lutherville. As poor as the timing is, we are required to pass it along in a timely manner. It is below for your reading.

WITH EMPATHY AND GRATITUDE FOR OUR COMMUNITY
In the face of such a difficult and heartbreaking week and knowing that many people in our community are processing their own grief and simultaneously helping their children through an unimaginably difficult time, we are so proud of our strong community. We feel that we are a place who continues to honor the humanity of all within our community, and has risen together, arm-in-arm to help Bailee and Serenity's families, their friends, our teachers and staff and each other. We extend our deepest thanks to the teachers and staff for the deep care they have given and all the families who contributed to their support this week. If you'd like to mark your calendars, Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week is coming up on May 5-9 and we will be in touch after the break about ways to recognize our dedicated team.
ROARIN' RUN - NEW DATE: THURS APRIL 24TH & SIGN UP - https://bit.ly/LLaprilmay25
Thank you for your understanding of our decision to reschedule the Roarin' Run given the weather and our desire to give the school community time to take care of one another.
As you likely saw from Mr. McComb's email, we will be moving the run to THURS APRIL 24TH, same times for each grade. We understand if this does not work with your schedule (oh how the Fri before Spring Break seemed perfect when we were planning it! and we know sometimes Thursdays aren't as easy as Fridays) but if it does work for you and you'd like to sign up for the new date, please visit the SignUpGenius - the new slots are there: https://bit.ly/LLaprilmay25.
We are thrilled to share that with $6,834 we have met and exceeded our goal! The online portal will close tomorrow, Fri April 12th and we are grateful to all who contributed.
