Greetings Southwestern Families,
The staff of SWE is excited to welcome students on August 6th for the start of the 2025-2026 school year! It's been a busy summer around the building as we had our roof updated, our building deep cleaned, and many staff moved classrooms. We are ready for a fantastic year!
I know there has been a great deal of talk in the news about the new attendance laws in Indiana. Attendance is always a subject that causes a great deal of anxiety with families, so I wanted to clear up a few misconceptions about the attendance laws. These laws are aimed at how schools and the Department of Education track student attendance. A lot of misinformation has been spread stating that medical notes do not excuse student absences. That is not true. Doctor's notes will continue to excuse student absences. This new law simply provides schools and districts with requirements for tracking student attendance.
I am excited to announce that Southwestern will begin using Parent Square this year for all parent/guardian communication. Gone are the days of needing multiple communication apps to contact the teachers of your children! We will be sending more information out soon on getting registered for Parent Square and we will have a Parent Square Help Desk set up at Back to School Night.
