Where does the time go...
They say graduation is a milestone, but looking back, the 'big moment' wasn't walking across a stage. It was the hundreds of unremarkable Tuesdays where nothing seemed to change—until, suddenly, everything did. In this issue, I’m reflecting on the invisible work, the Bill Watterson philosophy of time, and what it actually feels like to reach the end of a long road.

📢 BIG Update for Nebraska Substitute Teachers! 🌽
Becoming a substitute teacher in Nebraska just got a whole lot simpler. Thanks to the passing of the LB1022 amendment, we are excited to announce major changes to educator certification requirements!
What’s Changing?
Human Relations Training (HRT) is no longer required for substitute teaching permits. This applies to BOTH local and state substitutes.
New Requirements at a Glance:
For Local Substitutes:
Application & Fee
Fingerprints (if applicable)
Minimum 48 semester credit hours
Note: The 90-day restriction still applies, but you can request additional days!
For State Substitutes:
Application & Fee
Fingerprints (if applicable)
Must hold (or have held) a Nebraska regular teaching certificate or an equivalent out-of-state certificate.
What this means for you:
The Nebraska Department of Education is currently updating their website and applications to reflect these changes. Best of all? Conditional requests for local subs missing an HRT course are no longer needed. Ready to get started?
Request Additional Days: https://www.education.ne.gov/local-substitute-teaching.../

Message for the Week:
Message from Mr. Tejkl
It Goes Fast...
Good morning!
Here we are...May has come and graduation is right around the corner. The final countdown and goodbyes are on deck which is a great milestone but also can be a sad moment of reflection as the time and effort has led to this ending point. In the end, we need to all enjoy the moments.
They say graduation is a milestone, but looking back, the "big moment" wasn't walking across a stage. It was the hundreds of unremarkable Tuesdays where nothing seemed to change—until, suddenly, everything did. We often spend our lives waiting for a single day to transform us, only to realize that the transformation happened in the quiet, invisible hours when we weren’t even looking.
As we reach this turning point, Bill Watterson said it best: "Day by day, nothing seems to change, but pretty soon, everything is different." This is the reality for all of us, whether we are students hitting the books, staff keeping the gears turning, or parents/loved ones supporting the journey. It is easy to feel like you are standing still in the middle of a long season. You might not feel "smarter" after one lecture, "more prepared" after one shift, or "different" after one day of effort. But growth isn't a lightning bolt; it’s a slow-moving tide.
Every hour we have spent here has been a deposit into the people we are becoming. The time was going to pass anyway, but there is a hidden beauty in the fact that we chose to spend it on something that matters. To the students: your persistence in the "boring" moments is what built your brilliance. To the staff: your steady, daily commitment is the foundation that made this growth possible. And to our communities: you remind us that anything worth having is built in those quiet, compounding hours.
As we look at how fast the time has gone, let’s not mistake "busy-ness" for "progress." Relaxation isn't "lost time"—it is the necessary breath between the days that change us. We often overestimate what we can do in a day, but we vastly underestimate what we can accomplish in a year of small, dedicated steps. Everything is different now because of the work we did when we thought nothing was happening. Let’s honor that grind, but let’s also honor the pauses.
Keep going. The "day-by-day" is where the magic lives.
Have a great rest of your week!
Sincerely,
Tucker Tejkl
