Kōkopu Newsletter
Term 1 Week 8 Tuesday 17th March 2026
Principals Message
Kia ora Kōkopu whānau,
We have had another couple of weeks filled with exciting learning experiences and enriching activities. At Kōkopu School, we strive to provide a well-rounded curriculum with high expectations for academic progress, complemented by engaging and motivating opportunities that allow every student to shine.
I have been very impressed with our writing across the school so far this year. In particular, I was very interested to read some of Room 6’s writing about Ai taking over teachers' jobs. Even more interesting was that I asked two Room 6 girls to come and help me finish of an AI project that will make reading easier in junior classrooms. A happy coincidence!!
We have also had Northland Rugby and Kiwi North come out to school in the last few weeks. These opportunities give our students broad learning experiences.
The student council had a very successful dress-up day, making $200 to go towards some new lunchtime play equipment. A big thank you to Completely Drained, who donated the new skateboards. www.completelydrained.co.nz
Last week Room 3 and 4 went out to Tangihua Lodge camp for 4 full days of bush camp activities and fun. The rain was steady, but that made the whole experience just that bit more memorable. This week Room 5 and 6 go out, but the weather is looking a lot better. A big thank you to Ricky Schraag who did the possum trapping, skinning and de-furring activities for the kids. Also, to Jono Peters and Pacific Gold, who donated a lot of our meat for the week.
Our Zone Swimming sports at Maungatapere School went well. Our students did a great job and should be very proud of their achievements. A big thank you to Maungatapere School for the use of their pool and facilities.

Bike Day and Triathlon
Next week on, Tuesday 24th March, we will have our annual Bike Day. This is an opportunity to bring your bike to school for a practice for our triathlon which will be held the next day, and get a safety check. Please contact your child's teacher or the school office if you need a bike for the triathlon. Bikes can be left at school over night, locked up in the classrooms ready for the triathlon.
On Wednesday 25th March we will have our triathlon here at school. As you may know the pool is still under construction so we can't have swimming as an event in our triathlon, but we have replaced this with a water slide. The events will be in order of water slide, biking and running. Children will need to bring their togs and towels please. When they have completed the water slide they will need to wear closed in shoes and a safety helmet for the biking part of the event. All children compete in this event. We start at 10am with Room 1 followed by Rooms 2, 5, 3 and 4, and 6. The children will compete in their year groups. Lunch will be at 12.30. Everyone is welcome to come along to school and support the children at this event.

Year 7 and 8 team will be going to EPro 8 Challenge on Tuesday 24th March at 4pm
