December 10, 2023 - Community Newsletter
Dear Monomoy Middle School Families,
Middle School is unique in that we carry students through two important transitions in their education, both from the elementary school, and to the high school. One of our goals at MRMS this year is to build on the opportunities for us to work with the students and staff at all levels to prepare students for these exciting transitions. Last week, the 7th graders got to meet the counselors from the Teach and MRHS. This week, the MRHS band students came to work with our budding musicians, and our We Are Monomoy Seminar was able to visit Chatham Elementary. There is more to come! Thank you to all the students and staff for your work to bolster our vertical alignment with the high school and the elementary schools!
In Partnership,
Abby Dudley
Principal
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Morning Drop Off: Students are able to be dropped off at the middle school at 7:30am. Any student who is arriving early is expected to be engaged in an activity, including our morning clubs, our library support, or working with a teacher. Students arriving before 8:15 are not permitted to hang out in the lobby, as we need to ensure proper supervision.
End of Day Student Pick Up: Thank you to everyone for being flexible in our movement of parent pick up to the side of the building. We ask for your help in ensuring a safe dismissal process by asking that students are not walking in front of any other cars as they find their ride.
Lost and Found: The lost and found will be emptied again over Winter Break. Please encourage your child to visit in the upcoming weeks to look for any lost items.
Creative Writing Club has Moved! Due to conflict with other clubs, Ms. Hanna's Creative Writing Club will take place on Wednesday mornings for the remainder of the Winter Club season.
Hiring for Math: We are currently hiring for a 7th grade math position for the remainder of the 2023-24 school year. If you or anyone you know is a licensed Math teacher with interest, the posting can be found on School Spring, or you can reach out directly to Mrs. Dudley with any questions.
Winter Concert: The MRMS Band & Chorus Winter Concert is this Thursday, December 14 at 6:30pm at the High School. Click here to get your tickets. Thank you so much for your support as we look to expand our programming for performing arts students!
Polished Dental Services (12/14): This week we will be holding a dental clinic on Thursday December 14, 2023. The clinic will consist of a cleaning and inspection (no x-rays). The clinic is free and students may participate whether or not they receive dental services elsewhere. If you have already registered your student you do not need to do it again.

Thank you Volunteers! The Harwich Elementary PTO would like to give a shout out to our Middle School Student Volunteers for helping us pull off another very successful Holiday Bazaar this past weekend! We absolutely appreciate you taking time out of your day to help spread some holiday joy with our Shark Families and Community! Thank you to Myla W., Joseph A., Avery G., Lyla M., Mia L., Bailey F., Scarlett R., Madison V., Esme S., Sofia D., Catherine B., Regan M., Zoey ., Julia M., Gia M., Lexi K., Brady M., Mia B., Teagan L., Emily G., Alexandria S., Olivia E., Courtney B., Briella H., and Alexa S.
Shark Den Thrift Store: One of our many Math Seminars continues to work hard to get their thrift store ready for a soft launch before we leave for break. We continue to be in search 1. A variety of Clothing Donations 2. Hangers 3. Clothing Rocks. The goal of the store is to build sustainability, and just be...FUN! Every student will have the option to visit the thrift store with a "five dollar" limit per quarter. The "five dollars" is on a card that the students have created. No real money will be taken at the store. Families will receive a consent form after the new year that needs to be completed before the students can visit. The students are so excited about what they are creating and it is amazing to see them developing their entrepreneurial skills in conjunction with math skills. Thanks to Ms. Lower for all your hard work with these students.
OLD NEWS AND REMINDERS
School Council: We are recruiting members for our second School Council meeting on 1/8 at 4pm in the front office. Pleas email Mrs. Dudley if you are interested in joining us!
Clubs: We will be running all clubs in the first two weeks of the season. Clubs must remain at an enrollment of 8 to continue throughout the season.
Sports Communications: We rely directly on the coaches to communicate with families. Please reach out directly to your student's coach with sports questions, or reach out to Ms. Guillmette at kguillemette@monomoy.edu.
Winter Coats: As the weather continues to get cooler, students will still have the option to get fresh air as a part of our lunch routine. If students are choosing to go outside, please help them remember to bring proper gear for the weather. Students MUST bring their outerwear to lunch as they are not able to return to their lockers once lunch has begun.
