Hawthorne's Second Annual Multicultural Night
Wednesday, February 25, 2026
Join us on February 25, 2026, at Hawthorne High School for Hawthorne’s Second Annual Multicultural Night! This year’s theme, “Strong Roots, Many Branches, One Hawthorne,” celebrates the many cultures that come together to make our school community strong and vibrant.
Across the district, Multicultural Night bulletin boards in each building highlight this theme and proudly display the flags of countries and cultures represented so far, including Taiwan, Peru, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Italy, Poland, Nicaragua, Lebanon, Puerto Rico, Germany, the Republic of Georgia, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Jamaica, Mexico, the Netherlands, Ireland, Albania, and Newfoundland. As more families sign up, additional flags will be added to the displays.
This event is a wonderful opportunity for all schools in our community to come together, celebrate our diverse backgrounds, and learn more about one another’s traditions and heritage. Families are encouraged to participate by hosting a booth or contributing to an existing one.
Whether you are sharing your culture or attending with your family, we look forward to an evening filled with international cuisine, music, activities, and visual displays from around the world.

8th Grade LMS Winter Superstars
One of the most anticipated events for our 8th graders is the LMS Winter Superstars competition. During this exciting event, students compete against one another in teams, selecting captains and participating in a variety of challenges ranging from volleyball to the dribble relay.
This year, students truly brought the spirit, kicking off the event with spectacular team entrances into the gym to debut their themes and school pride. The energy was high throughout the competition, making it a memorable experience for all involved. Congratulations to Mr. Kenny’s Kittens for earning the first-place win in this year’s LMS Winter Superstars!
8th Grade Valentine's Day Dance
The 8th Grade Valentine’s Day Dance was a fun-filled night enjoyed by all at LMS. Students danced the evening away, shared plenty of treats, and showed off festive light-up Valentine’s Day glasses that quickly became a crowd favorite. A heartfelt thank-you goes to the 8th grade Valentine’s Day Dance decorating committee and all the families who generously donated to help make the night such a success. A huge shout-out as well to our 8th grade advisors, Mrs. Naugle and Mr. Ferraro, for their support and dedication in making the event memorable for everyone. 💖🕺💃
Marking Period 2 Experience
To celebrate the successful completion of Marking Period 2, LMS students participated in the highly anticipated Circle Dodge experience. In order to play, students cashed in their BEAR BUCKS to redeem a ticket for the event, while other students enjoyed watching from the sidelines and cheering on their classmates. During this fun-filled celebration, students had the opportunity to play both against one another and against LMS staff in spirited games of Circle Dodge. Laughter, teamwork, and friendly competition filled the gym, making it a great way to recognize students’ hard work and celebrate another positive marking period at LMS.

AP Environmental Science Students Dig Into Soil Health
Mr. Crimmel shared, "Students in AP Environmental at HHS tested soil samples they gathered from their homes (gardens, flowerbeds, lawns, etc) for pH and three essential plant nutrients: Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. They then used their results to make recommendations on how to amend their soil for optimal plant growing conditions."
Vocabulary Comes Alive in Mr. McKinley’s ELA Class
Ms. Pasquale shared, "Mr. McKinley's 9th Grade ELA class at HHS, featuring ESL students from Colombia, El Salvador, Vietnam, and Nicaragua, analyzed new vocabulary in author Amy Tan's "Two Kinds." After explaining words such as deaf, nickname, and whine, Mr. McKinley invited HHS goalkeeper Oner Benavidez to demonstrate the word kick. Oner responded with some very impressive dribbling, giving the class a kinesthetic and tangible way to remember the new word!"
Dancing Across the Hawthorne District
Ms. Sonia shared, "This week the Dance 3 students put their pedagogy work to the test as they taught dance to Hawthorne’s K-5th graders at Jefferson, Washington and Roosevelt. Our future bears warmed up while learning dance vocabulary, executed across the floor combinations and learned a dance of the day. The Dance 3 students were excellent and our young dancers were amazing. We can’t wait to work together more! "
