Black History Month

Black History Month. Every February, the U.S. honors the contributions and sacrifices of African Americans who have helped shape the nation. Black History Month celebrates the rich cultural heritage, triumphs and adversities that are an indelible part of our country's history. Each day, we will introduce you to one of America's pioneering black figures from history.

Ethel Waters (1896-1977)

Waters first entered the entertainment business in the 1920s as a blues singer and then became a Broadway star. Later in life, she made history for her work in television—she was the first African American to star in her own TV show, The Ethel Waters Show, and she was nominated for an Emmy in 1962.

February Heart Disease Awareness Month Facts:

Heart Month 2024 is an annual observance dedicated to raising awareness about heart health and cardiovascular diseases. It serves as a reminder to prioritize heart-healthy lifestyles, learn about heart disease prevention, and support those affected by cardiovascular conditions.

We will be adding a Fact of The Day for the month of February to help bring awareness to heart health.

Today's fact is:

Do you know where the AED is at your school? An AED is a type of computerized defibrillator that automatically analyzes the heart rhythm in people who are experiencing cardiac arrest. When appropriate, it delivers an electrical shock to the heart to restore its normal rhythm.

Thanks to 3D Printing, NASA Can Basically Email Tools to Astronauts

Getting new equipment to the Space Station used to take months or years, but the new technology means the tools are ready within hours.

In the first-ever case of “emailing” a tool into space to meet the needs of an astronaut, ISS commander Barry Wilmore was in need of a ratcheting socket wrench, so he had one emailed to the 3D printer that's now aboard the ISS, Wired reports. The 3D printer was designed and built by Made In Space, a California company.
