Sabercats who SHOW UP; SHOW OUT; and SHOW DOWN! Sabercats who SHOW UP; SHOW OUT; and SHOW DOWN!

Emily Gerlach: In 9th Grade History, Emily Gerlach stands out for her thoughtful contributions to discussions and her quiet, confident leadership. She is consistently an all-around kind and respectful student and a pleasure to have in class.

Victoria Rothbacher: I don't think I've ever seen Victoria without a smile. She shows up each day ready to go! In class, she is a leader and takes the underclassmen under her wing and makes them feel welcome. She engages fully in everything she does and even participates in extracurricular clubs and sports after school. She has been great to have in class and will be missed when she returns to Germany after winter break.

Lucas Paladino: Lucas is always actively involved in German class. He is kind, helpful, and always strives to do his best on any task given.

Abby Lyle: Abby gives her best every day in German class. She always asks thoughtful questions to be sure she has a good understanding of the topic. She is also an active member of the German Honor Society. If we need people to show up and help, I know we can count on Abby!

Quinn Matthews: Without fail, Quinn shows up every day ready to engage. Not only is he supportive of his peers, but Quinn is also consistently polite and respectful in the classroom. Outside of class, he goes out of his way to greet teachers — not just with a quick “Hi,” but by genuinely taking the time to ask how they’re doing. Quinn, thank you for being such a great example of what it looks like to "Show Up!"

Ryan Morken: Ryan Morken shows up to work every day with a smile on his face. He engages well with the students and provides them with the care and structure they need. I'm lucky to work with him each day.

Kaitlyn Standerfer: Ms. Standerfer shows up to challenge her students every day. Her dedication to Science is outstanding! She works hard to provide her students with an engaging and nurturing learning environment.

Emma Hranchak: Emma shows up each day ready to help students be the best they can be. Her compassion and guidance make a real difference in the lives of so many students. And the support she gives students is invaluable!

Morgan Castor: There isn't a friendlier person on the planet than Ms. Castor! She is everyone's best friend; there's nothing she wouldn't do to help a person in need. She's worked so hard to continue getting better since starting here; she's such an important member of our staff.

Shanequa Baker: Shanequa is an amazing advocate for students; she's often listed as their trusted adult in the building, and she has a positive presence everywhere she goes.

Danny Kay: Danny is often listed as a student's trusted adult; they note that he's approachable, his class is interactive, and he's understanding of their needs. I'm so glad Danny is part of the CV family!

Cory Donofrio and Tim Scott: Have shown up big time as part of our awesome physics time, bringing energy, great ideas, and awesome conversations.

Brynlee MacFarlane: Brynlee has been a great leader in Versailles. She led the class the other day with great success. Everyone has great respect for her. Job well done.

Ava Harting: Completed Leap of Faith in Adventure!

Zen Block: Zen has been a delight to have in class. Their level of passion and attention to detail has been fun to watch bloom in class. Zen is very thoughtful and dedicated, and has definitely pushed me to be a better teacher. Their efforts are greatly appreciated!

Wil Stasiak: Wil has such great humor, a winning attitude, and is always up for trying new and challenging things in class. He is the calm, positive presence at his table, and is not only a great role model, but is also dedicated to giving his best on new content.

Emma Hranchak: As a freshman counselor this year, Emma has gone out of her way to help encourage and support freshmen as a transition from middle school into high school. One thing that she did recently was to find the kids who have already completed their 20 hours of community service and celebrate them!

Shanequa Baker: Shanequa does an outstanding job encouraging kids to be active in her classes. She builds relationships with students every day - students often comment that she is one of their favorite teachers! She helps to lead her department and is looked to by many others in the building as somebody who really shows her Sabercat pride. A great example of something she did recently with her department was to organize the Halloween costume, which ended up winning the building-wide contest! Phenomenal leader and champion for kids.

Sabrina Garber: Ms. Garber has embodied the Show Out qualities by leading our PLC and mentoring a new teacher. Her hard work deserves to be recognized because she has had to dedicate a lot of time to being a leader in our school.

Derek Stach: Derek showed out with the pumpkin explosion experiment. He provided students with an experience they will remember for a lifetime. He has so much energy and passion for chemistry.

Bodie Diener: Bodie has done an amazing job adjusting to the new demands of high school and goes above and beyond to improve his grades. Well done, Bodie! We are so proud of you!

Sawyer Gonzalez: I have had Sawyer as a student for multiple years, and I am constantly impressed by the amount of detail and thoughtfulness he puts into the work he does, and by how consistently he has been able to maintain a high standard of analysis and thoughtfulness in the work he does. We can all be better by being as consistent and hard-working as Sawyer.

Emma Bardell: Emma has given a lot to make our school a better place. Emma is an exemplary student and member of the CV community, giving 110% to her work in the classroom, in the Spanish Honors Society, as a football manager, and I'm sure more beyond that! Her level of care and attention to the little details has left a legacy that will be difficult to match.

Maleah Maksyn: Maleah comes to class every day with a positive attitude and a great work ethic. She is a model student who demonstrates to her peers what it takes to succeed in a challenging class. She is not afraid to step outside her comfort zone and try new methods to learn math, all while putting in maximum effort that is evident to everyone in class. She has challenged herself this year by taking both Geometry and Algebra 2 this year. This can be overwhelming for many students, but she has embraced the challenge and is showing tremendous growth in her mathematical abilities. It is a true joy to have her in class.

Lilia Laitenen: Lilia consistently demonstrates what it means to give your very best to each and every project, each and every class. She is focused and dedicated. She perseveres through the challenges, and she always has a smile and a positive attitude despite whatever hurdles she faces in her work.

Jenny Dallman: Jenny organizes and runs engaging, fun field trips for students every year, that is practical and relevant to the work that students are doing in the classroom. I chaperoned the river trip recently and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the students “let their hair down,” benefit from the natural environment to learn within, and apply their learning to the real world. Thank you, Jenny, for making the work relevant!

Strength and Conditioning Class

For strength and conditioning classes 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th period we have seen great increases in class averages of vertical jump, mile run, clean, squat, and bench performance testing.

The following shows initial testing numbers that happened in September and midterm testing which happened last week! Each class showed great improvement! We are having some fun and have a competition for best overall class this term and the winning class will earn some great t-shirts to wear to show their hard work this term. After School Strength and Conditioning

Poms is ending a peaking cycle in their programming as the enter competition season! Strength gains have significantly increased but also cardiovascular endurance has seen the greatest improvement. Most team members have seen a 30-60s time decrease in their mile runs.

LAX is towards the end of their 12 weeks lifting cycle. They are focusing on power output and will see many top sets being 3 reps at the 80-85% range. They will start fall testing after Thanksgiving break.

Baseball is also towards the end of their cycle. They are also working tops sets for 3 reps at the 80-85% range and will have testing after break.

Girl’s Basketball just had their final week in the weightroom before their season. It was great to see more participation for their team this year. Vivian Yore ended testing with a 26.8 inch vertical which puts her on the board for the current best female vertical jump in the school and 2nd all time.

Winter Track has started and a handful of athletes have entered the weightroom on Tuesdays at 4pm to work on their strength and power for the upcoming season!

Girl’s LAX will be started on Monday 11/17 and will start a hypertrophy cycle in order to build muscle and gain strength to increase performance and reduce injury for their upcoming season.

Girl’s Soccer is coming up and they will be joining the weightroom on December 1st to prepare to make a run at a state title again.

Feel free to reach out about anything strength and conditioning related!

Happy November, Sabercats! 🦃

It’s hard to believe the first quarter is already behind us and Thanksgiving break is just around the corner! As the weather cools and the holiday season kicks off, it’s the perfect time to take a quick look at how attendance is tracked in Infinite Campus. Understanding what those colorful boxes mean helps everyone stay informed and on track for success heading into the second half of the semester.

Here’s a quick guide to help make sense of it all:

🟩 Excused Absence

An excused absence is shown with a GREEN box. A student’s absence will be documented as excused when a parent/guardian calls in and:

  • Gives a reason for the absence, and the student has missed fewer than five days in the semester

  • The student has missed more than five days, but provides a doctor’s note

  • The student has turned in a completed Pre-Arranged Absence Form

🟥 Unexcused Absence

An unexcused absence is shown with a RED box. A student’s absence will be documented as unexcused when:

  • A parent/guardian calls in but does not provide a reason for the absence

  • A parent/guardian calls in, but the student has missed more than five days, and no doctor’s note is provided

  • A parent/guardian notifies the school of an extended absence, but the Pre-Arranged Absence Form is not completed

  • No call is received within 48 hours of the absence

🟨 Unverified Absence

An unverified absence is shown with a YELLOW box. A student’s absence will be documented as unverified when:

  • A student is absent from class, and a parent/guardian has not called in

Attendance Systems Attendance Systems

Attendance Policy

  • Students must maintain 90% attendance to stay in compliance with district policy and state saw.

  • Students have five parent/guardian-excused absences each semester. As long as a parent/guardian calls and provides a reason, the absence will be excused.

  • After those five days, a doctor’s note is required for any illness-related absence to be excused. A Dean of Students may contact the family for more information before excusing other types of absences.

Early Release: A parent/guardian must call ahead, stating the time and reason for the early release. The student will be sent a pass with the time departure. Students are free to leave at that time. When students return to school from an early release, they must check in at the attendance window before going back to class. A doctor’s note may be requested.

Late Arrival: Students arriving late to the start of the school day should go straight to class. If the tardiness is excusable, a parent/guardian must call the late arrival line with the time of arrival and reason. A doctor’s note may be requested.

Future Planned Absences of Three or More Days: For planned absences of three or more days, the Pre-Arranged Absence Request Form must be completed and returned to the main office at least 48 hours in advance of the absence.

Complete the following steps when reporting your student’s attendance:

  1. Call attendance line: 303-387-9002

  2. Choose the correct line (early release, late arrival, all-day absence), and leave a message with a detailed reason for absence.

Questions? Reach out to the attendance team:

  • Zac Ross, Dean of Students, 10th and 12th Grade: 303-387-9024
