Exotic Animals Bring Novel to Life at Hadley

Hadley 6th grade Spanish classes read the novel, La Perezosa Impaciente (The Impaciente Sloth), by Mira Canion. The story takes place in Colombia with a sloth named Mía who dreams of moving faster. She meets various exotic animal characters along her journey, including an armadillo.

As a way to bring the novel to life, Sharon Peterson from
Incredible Bats brought in 18 exotic animals from all over the world. Students were able to observe the animals up close. The animal visitors included a Linne’s two-fingered sloth and a three-banded armadillo. Students were able to learn about the animals’ habitats, country of origin, diet, abilities, life span, interests, sounds, and more.

Thank you to Hadley’s principals, exploratory teachers, custodians, and office staff for their assistance in making this visit happen! A big thank you as well to Ms.
Amarisa Gombis, 6th-8th grade Spanish teacher, for coordinating this event.

Hadley Orchestra Solo & Ensemble Festival

The orchestra department at Hadley Jr. High School held their Annual Solo & Ensemble Festival on January 31. Hadley orchestra students had the opportunity to perform with piano accompaniment in front of an experienced judge/professional musician, including Mrs. Christina Dickenson, Orchestra Director from Indian Springs School District #109.

Constructive feedback was given to help improve performance skills. Within the festival an 8th grade concerto competition was held. 8th grade string players competed with each other for an opportunity to perform a solo at the Hadley Spring Orchestra Concert that will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025. Congratulations to Helen Manak, 8th grade cellist, for winning first place at this concerto competition!

Hadley Orchestra Director Ms. Georgia Alemis, stated, "This type of learning experience helps students develop performance skills as a musician. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to display their talents in a recital format." Congratulations to all the performers!
