Springdale Cuts Jones PREP Ribbon
Providing specialized support and care for NWA students
Springdale Public Schools celebrated the opening of Jones PREP Academy Aug. 6 with a ribbon cutting ceremony, breathing new purpose into the historic Jones Elementary School campus.
Operating under the guiding motto "RESET · REFOCUS · RISE," the academy creates a school-centered continuum of care designed around the unified academic, behavioral-health, and family-support needs of students.
Jones PREP (Personal Responsibility and Educational Preparation) Academy, 900 S. Powell St., serves K-8 students in a highly structured, trauma-responsive learning environment. By uniting educators, behavioral health professionals and family services under one roof, the academy eliminates systemic fragmentation to deliver coordinated, whole-child support.
"We are not simply reopening a building; we are reimagining what a school can be when education, behavioral health, and family support operate as one team," said Assistant Principal Nichole Davis. "Jones PREP Academy will be a place where students can reset, refocus and rise, and where families know they do not have to navigate challenging seasons alone."
Jones PREP Academy is designed with long-term expansion in mind and plans to grow into a regional facility capable of serving the specialized educational, behavioral health, and family support needs of the broader Northwest Arkansas community.
"In Springdale, our mission is to develop minds that think, hearts that care, and hands that serve and that means every single child," said Superintendent Dr. Jared Cleveland of Springdale Public Schools. "When life gets overwhelming for a student, they shouldn't have to navigate that struggle alone, and neither should their family. Jones PREP Academy is our promise to pour into our kids when they need us most, providing the safety, support, and high expectations they need to overcome challenges and thrive."
A defining feature of Jones PREP Academy is the strength of its community partnerships. Through collaboration with organizations including EverHope School Project, Arisa Health, Community Clinic, PowerBack Pediatrics and other local partners, students and families have access to an integrated network of behavioral health, educational, medical and family support services.
"Together, these partnerships reflect our belief that student success is built when schools, families and community organizations work side-by-side to remove barriers, create opportunities and ensure every child has the support they need to thrive," Cleveland said.
Students are scheduled to begin classes Aug. 10. The school’s aviation-inspired shield-and-wings logo will feature Navy and Growth Green.
Key Pillars of the Jones PREP Academy Model
● Integrated Continuum of Care: Academic instruction, behavior systems, counseling and family supports are managed by a single coordinated team, rather than isolated entities.
● Trauma-Responsive Environment: Small class sizes, predictable routines, regulation support and trusted adult relationships establish the safety students need to build skills and re-engage in learning.
● Active Family Partnership: Families are valued as essential partners in care, participating actively through consultation, coaching, resource connection and transition planning.
● Purpose-Built Learning Spaces: The renovated campus features developmentally responsive classrooms, sensory and regulation spaces, on-site behavioral-health offices and dedicated family-resource areas.
● Goal-Oriented Transitions: Focuses on developing academic, behavioral and self-regulation skills to prepare students for successful long-term participation in less restrictive settings.
