Givens & Freedom School Collaboration
The Chelsea Center is excited to have a new partnership and service learning course through our Givens Freedom School collaboration. In this course, WGHS students empower young Givens Elementary scholars through reading, creativity, and community engagement. They also help inspire a love of learning, serve as positive role models, and bring joy to elementary-aged students. Students interested in teaching and child development have the opportunity to enroll in the 2nd semester for a repeat offering of this course wherein their passion for education, service, and justice will be put to work. Please help us make your student aware of the opportunity!
Currently enrolled students are growing their leadership skills and making a real impact at Givens Freedom School. Says one student, “The happiness and energy that comes from being surrounded by kids as they make connections and discover new things is unmatched. I feel deeply grateful for the opportunity to encourage them, listen to their stories, and grow alongside them in such a meaningful space.” Another student adds, “During my first week at Freedom School, I really enjoyed building connections with the younger students, and it showed me how moments of encouragement can make a difference.”
Thanks to our partners at Givens and the local Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School for this exciting and meaningful collaboration!
Reminder: We can help students who are pursuing their A+ hours find connections to service learning that include the mentorship or job shadowing components the A+ program requires. Have your students stop by to talk with us, or independently explore their GivePulse account opportunity listings at wgsd.givepulse.com.
