We are excited to share that our new Superintendent, Mr. Krish Mohip, visited Proviso East on Tuesday, December 3rd! It was a wonderful opportunity for him to connect with our dedicated staff, interact with our amazing students, and explore the classrooms where so much incredible learning takes place every day.

One of the highlights of his visit was enjoying lunch with our students during the Lunch Bunch presentation, hosted by the Loyola School-Based Health Center. Under the enthusiastic leadership of our passionate Dietician, Arden Baldinger, and Director, Susan Buechele, this gathering celebrates our fantastic Lunch Bunch program, which provides students with healthy meal options three days a week. Mr. Mohip truly enjoyed connecting with students in such a meaningful way!

He expressed his excitement about being part of the Proviso family and his commitment to supporting the success of our students and our entire school community. With Mr. Mohip's leadership and vision, we are confident that Proviso East will continue to be a nurturing place for learning, growth, and opportunity for all our students.

Getting Students Into The Spirit Of Giving Getting Students Into The Spirit Of Giving

The holiday season is the perfect time to foster a spirit of giving among students while creating meaningful memories that last well beyond December. Encouraging young people to give back—whether by volunteering at a local food pantry, organizing toy drives, or helping neighbors in need—instills a sense of gratitude, compassion, and community.

Volunteering as a family not only makes a greater impact but also strengthens bonds and creates lasting traditions. Working together to serve others helps children develop empathy, learn teamwork, and build a sense of accomplishment. It's also a wonderful way to explore new opportunities, meet people from diverse backgrounds, and form connections within your community.

For Proviso High School students, volunteering is an excellent way to earn community service hours, which is a graduation requirement and often beneficial for college applications. It's also a great opportunity to learn more about different organizations and gain valuable life skills.

Together, we can teach our students the joy of giving and create a ripple effect of positivity that extends throughout the year.

  • Return the completed form and obtain approval from the Community Service Contact.
  • Upon approval, obtain an Evaluation Form from the Community Service Contact.
  • Complete project.
  • You and the agency supervisor complete the Evaluation Form. Return the completed Evaluation Form within two weeks of completion of the project.
  • Community Service hours will be credited to your record.

Available Service

  • Must benefit the community or the school.
  • Must be unpaid.
  • Must be completed outside of the student's normal school day.
  • Must be completed in addition to class requirements
  • Can be completed for anyone outside of family members.
  • Can be completed for any organization other than political groups.
  • Can be earned anytime except while a student is serving out-of-school suspension.

Why Community Service?

The number of high school students involved in community service programs has risen from 81,000 in 1984 to nearly 3 million in 1997 (National Service Clearinghouse). Community service programs are being implemented to help counteract the sense of isolation that many experts attribute to the growing amount of violence in schools. Most schools with community service learning cite strengthening relationships among students, the school, and the community as key reasons for doing community service. Community service has long been viewed as a possible means of improving education. John Dewey, an advocate of service learning, believed that students would learn more effectively and become better citizens if they engaged in service to the community.

Drop-In Hours ⏰Monday-Friday

Mr. Korntheuer is here to assist students’ search for identity while preparing for life after high school. He can help guide students who may be:

• dealing with the many facets of separation anxiety;

• coping with the expectations that students and families bring to the table; and

• confronting the vulnerability and apprehension with which students and families wrestle.

The College Counseling Office is a department that:

• helps create a college list for each student;

• hosts admissions representatives from colleges and universities;

• provides pertinent information regarding application responsibilities;

• holds individual meetings with students from the second semester of their junior year through their senior year;

• presents college informational evenings throughout the year; and

• offers ongoing support and advocacy.

• supports students in the completion of FAFSA

The exciting task of the College Counseling Career Center is to remain alert to the issues and trends facing our students, provide clarity about the pressures of the college process, and support each student in his or her college/career search.

We are confident that all students will come through the process feeling they have succeeded and have various options. We feel most fortunate to work with you and your students.

We encourage students to come by during lunch periods or by appointment after school.

• lidiando con las múltiples facetas de la ansiedad por separación;

• ayuda a crear una lista de universidades para cada estudiante;

• recibe a representantes de admisiones de universidades;

• brinda información pertinente sobre las responsabilidades de la solicitud;

• realiza reuniones individuales con los estudiantes desde el segundo semestre de su tercer año hasta su último año;

• ofrece apoyo y defensa continuos.
