Hello Susick Elementary Community!!

I am so excited for year #2 as principal of Susick. The staff and I are ready to "BE THE RAIN" for your students. We will make sure they have everything they need to learn, grow, and bloom this year.

For those of you who are new to Susick, I have been an educator for over 30 years. I spent 17 years in the classroom (7th grade ELA), a few years in curriculum, and then 7 years as AP at Warren Mott High School. My roots, however, where in Early Childhood Education. My husband Sean and I have 2 sons, Nolan and Connor, and a daughter Brandi with a family of her own (4 grandchildren)! We have 2 Great Danes named Finnigan and Casey.

Our student's safety is one of our priorities at Susick and we need your help! Dropping off students at the right time and at the right door will help ensure their safety. The times we set will ensure we have adults in the building to help your student get to where they need to be safely.

• Students coming to Susick for breakfast - Door #4 will open at 8:20 am
• Students not eating breakfast - Door #4 will be open to them at 8:45 am
• Door 4 closes at 8:55 am - students can enter at the front entrance (Door #1)

Reminder to all parents registered for our Latchkey service: Please select your days for the next week’s Latchkey program by Saturday at midnight. Drop-ins are not permitted. All participating students must be registered and included on the schedule for that day.

The Warren Consolidated Schools Transportation Department is committed to partnering with schools, families and the community to provide safe, professional, reliable and efficient transportation for eligible students. This includes transportation to and from school, various school programs throughout the day, educational field trips, athletic trips and all other approved activities.

Susick students will be taking 3 different NWEA assessments during September and October. They will take the NWEA MAP Growth test in reading and math. They will also take the NWEA Fluency test, which measures reading and replaces the DRA tests.

To prepare for testing, please make sure your child is getting plenty of sleep (10 hours/night for elementary students), eating a healthy breakfast, and arriving to school on time. Thank you for partnering with us!

Picture Day at Susick is Tuesday, September 16th. There are several ways that you can place your order for school pictures. Attached is a PDF order form, but we are also including the link for online ordering below. A paper version of the order form with come home with your child this week.

We will have a picture retake day on October 27th.

Please review our absence protocol below so you are prepared when you have a sick child.

Absence Protocol

• Please make sure you call the Absence Line if your child will not be at school for any reason.
• The Absence Line can be reached 24 hours a day - 7 days a week at 586-825-2665 then press option #2
• If your child is vomiting and/or has a fever, they are not to come to school.
• Before children can return to school, the child must be fever free and off fever reducing medications for 24 hours.
