Community Partners Team Up for Long-Term Safety Solution at CRHS Crosswalk
Anoka County, the City of Coon Rapids, and Anoka-Hennepin Schools are partnering on a comprehensive plan to improve pedestrian safety along Northdale Boulevard at Coon Rapids High School.
Why It Matters: This crosswalk serves as the main daily pathway connecting students, staff, families, and community members to the school building, parking areas, stadium, and athletic fields. Because so many students cross this busy corridor before and after school and during evening events, establishing a safe, permanent solution is a top priority for our entire school community. Ongoing pedestrian safety concerns along Northdale Boulevard at Coon Rapids High School have brought Anoka County, City of Coon Rapids and Anoka-Hennepin staff together to form an long-term action plan for pedestrian safety at this location.
Action Plan & Next Steps: Building on $458,000 in state-funded Safe Routes to School improvements completed in 2023 (which added flashing beacons, school zone signage, enhanced lighting, and crosswalk realignment), project partners have agreed on two key phases:
Short-Term Plan: The city and county are working on immediate solutions to slow traffic and alert drivers to the pedestrian crossing spaces crossing Northdale Boulevard.
Long-Term Plan: Developing a permanent solution to eliminate the street-level crossing entirely, safely separating pedestrian traffic from vehicles.
Additional updates will be shared as detailed plans are finalized.

CRHS Parking Permits On Sale Now!
Attention CRHS Students- all students parking at CRHS during the school day must have a valid student parking permit. Parking permits are available throughout the 2026-2027 school year while supplies last. The cost is $35.00 per trimester or $105.00 for the entire school year.
Parking permits are purchasable in-person at the CRHS Finance Office located in the Main Office or online via School Pay/Parent Vue. (Note: Online purchases require students to pick up their permits from the Finance Office.) Students that do not purchase a valid parking permit but drive and park at school on an occasional basis can purchase a daily parking pass for $2.00 from the Finance Office to prevent a violation. $15.00 tickets may be issued for cars without permits.
A list of parking rules and regulations is available from the Finance Office. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Matthews in the CRHS Main Office, via email at lana.matthews@ahschools.us or by phone 763-506-7302.

Attend to Achieve- Support Student Attendance & Student Success!
Students need to attend school to achieve in school. Anoka-Hennepin Schools aims to share attendance and resources and tips with families to support student success.
Every day counts: Research shows that missing 10 percent of school negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month! (Attendance Works.) District student services staff and attendance secretaries at each school may reach out to families throughout the school year if your student is at risk of truancy.
Why it matters: The more involved students are in school, the more likely they are to enjoy and want to attend school. Students who attend school 95% of the time are:
- More likely to be on track to graduate on time.
- Do better in reading and math.
- Are less likely to fail a class.
- Are more likely to have the credits needed to graduate.
Families can make a difference: We can all work together to support students. Consider how you can help your student attend to achieve!
- Teach your child to organize their clothes, lunch and books for school the night before, so they are prepared in the morning.
- Encourage your child to participate in before- or after-school activities. Students who are involved at school usually enjoy school more and are more likely to want to attend each day.
- Schedule non-emergency health and dental appointments outside of school hours; and schedule vacations for days your children don’t have school.
- If you know your child needs to miss school, contact the office as soon as possible to coordinate plans as soon as possible.
