Happy 2023 HHS!

Happy New Year, Huckleberry Heroes! I hope everyone had a relaxing break and were able to enjoy some of the spring-like weather we had the last few days! I am so glad to be back at HHS and am looking forward to all the fun we will have in 2023! While I was out, I was able to spend quality time with my daughter, Emilia, who we welcomed into our family this summer.

The beginning of a New Year is often when many of us set new goals for ourselves. Of course goals can be set any time of year, but why not help your child come up with a goal in January? Learning how to set goals is a great skill we can help children learn how to do. Check out the resource below to find four steps to help teach children to set goals!

Caring for a child with special needs can become a full-time job - and an overwhelming one at that, if you don't have adequate support.

If you're a parent, chances are you've witnessed a tantrum or two in your day. We expect them in two-year-olds. But if your child reaches school age and meltdowns and outbursts are still frequent, it may be a sign that they have difficulty with emotional self-regulation.

Guilt. Shame. Anger. Fear. We've all experienced these uncomfortable feelings, sometimes at intensities that are hard to tolerate. Painful emotions are part of being human, and learning how to respond to them in healthy and sustainable ways is one of the most important lessons a child can learn.
