Dear GWA Families,

Thanksgiving holiday week is upon us. I am grateful for many things: the opportunity to break bread in fellowship with family and friends, a successful fall semester, and a values-driven school family committed to building character, leadership and curiosity in students. Our teachers and coaches are invested fully in the growth and development of your children.

I hope you get a chance to watch the first video of our new Financial Roundtable series. In this eight-part series of short videos we will share over the next two months, our goal is to be transparent, to educate our families on the economics of GWA. Charitable support is essential to our great school. As the charts below demonstrate, 15% of our annual resources come from two sources: the Annual Loyalty Fund and the Georgia GOAL Tax Credit program. On the expense side, almost 70% of expenses support our faculty and staff. Why give to GWA? Because you believe in the adults who love and develop your children.

November and December are when the lion's share of charitable giving in our great country takes place. It's game time. Go Bulldogs! Year's end is the time to make a tangible and generous statement that you believe in GWA, by supporting both the ALF and Georgia GOAL.

Godspeed to you and your family for a blessed Thanksgiving.

John D. Marshall

Head of School

An Egg-cellent Lesson

This week in Mrs. Watts’s AP Physics class, students took to the field for an old-fashioned egg toss to bring the concept of impulse to life. Partner teams worked to increase the time interval of impact, giving their eggs a gentler landing and reducing the force of the collision. This reinforces the real-world application of impulse which can be found in helmets, airbags, and catcher’s mitts. No students were harmed in the making of this lab, although Alexa’s shoes and Anthony’s hair did receive a premium egg wash. Beckett and Kyle stole the show, setting a new class record with a flawless 50-yard toss without a single crack!

Balloons, Broadway, and Big Learning in K5

Mrs. Reynolds’ K5 class has enjoyed reading Balloons on Broadway this week as part of their Thanksgiving-themed learning. Students “traveled” on a virtual plane ride to New York City to explore the history and creation of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Throughout the week, they practiced sequencing for literacy, worked on balloon-themed addition in math, and engaged in several hands-on activities. Each child crafted a paper balloon for a colorful hallway display, and today they designed their own on-campus parade balloon to bring the story to life.

On December 10, GWA families will receive the SAIS Parent Survey, an important opportunity to share your perspectives. The school employed this same survey in 2024 and takes about 12 minutes to finish. It is entirely anonymous, and all responses are reported in aggregate. Your detailed feedback is essential in helping us better serve our community and strengthen the GWA experience. We hope you will take a few moments to share your insights - your voice directly influences future programming, planning, and school improvements. This winter we will provide a high-level summary of the survey results and benchmark key GWA metrics against SAIS benchmarks. Thank you in advance for your partnership and engagement.
