Friday Updates
August 29, 2025
From the Principal's Desk
Dear SHS Families,
We have reached the end of the first full week of the school year, and I, for one, can say this is a week that will stay with me for a long time. At times like these, I see the power of prayer often come into question, which is difficult for me to understand. Not only does prayer call upon the divine intercession of our Lord, a powerful force that cannot be understood, but prayer in itself is an exercise that builds faith in God. This faith, if strong enough, inspires hope for a better future, and when hope through Christ is realized, the love of individuals, groups, and communities is put into action to make that future a reality. So, please, continue your prayers. Pray for our school, its students, its staff, and for those in the Annunciation community.
As for other happenings around the school to be aware of, there is no school Monday for observance of Labor Day, and Friday will be our first Service Wear Day of the year benefiting Children’s Mercy Hospital. Students bringing in a donation can wear their service wear shirts and jeans or uniform bottoms. Other events to have on your radar are Donuts for Dads on Sept. 11th and picture day on Sept. 24th. See the information below and check out the school calendar for a bigger list of events of the goings ons of the school.
I hope you all enjoy your holiday weekends!
With Faith & Hope,
Patrick (P.J.) Greer

September 2nd the kitchen will start offering the students a "Veggie Bar" as part of the hot meal. As per state/federal requirements some vegetables will be required and that vegetable will change each day. The bar will be monitored but the students will be able to choose the other options. Grades PreK-2 will choose but be assisted with serving. Grades 3-6 will be allowed to serve themselves once they are familiar with the process.
An example might be:

Black Beans, peas, red beans, snap peas (Bean/Legume requirement)
Most starch requirements will be fulfilled as a hot vegetable.

How are your trash bags sales going? Additional forms are available if needed
First Friday and First Saturday Devotions at SHC
First Friday Mass: September 5th at 8:05 am.
First Saturday Mass: September 6th at 8:05
Catholics have many Treasures in the Church available to draw from as they journey through their lives. One treasure to assist us on this journey is the devotions of the First Friday and the First Saturday.
These devotions are a powerful response to the request of Our Lord and Our Lady, calling us to make reparation for sin, offer acts of love, and grow in holiness through a deeper devotion.
“In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph.” - Our Lady of Fatima
