2021 November Edition
What are you thankful for?
Wow! It’s November already??? During the month of November as we start to prepare for Thanksgiving, we usually slow down long enough to reflect and think about what kind of year we have had and what we are thankful for. I know I count my blessings every day but I also spend some time with my thoughts remembering the highs and slows of my year. Did you get a new job? Did you get a new family member? Did you buy a new car? Did you get a new hairdo or haircut? Did you go back to school or learn a new language? Life is constantly changing and life is hard. Think about it for a moment and then “BREATHE”…AHHH! Just breathe. You’ve got this moment and you’re still here. So relax, chill, seize the moment and just be! Be thankful. Be grateful. Be you and live like nobody else is watching. Give yourself permission to not hurry or worry but seriously think about what you are thankful for.

AMERICAN EDUCATION WEEK (AEW): NOVEMBER 15-19, 2021
So please join us as we celebrate excellence in education by thanking and supporting the teachers, staff, administrators, and of course all of our parents who encourage our scholars every day to be the very best that they can be.
A Wellness Word...
1. Please keep your child home if they are sick. Know your COVID symptoms: Coughing, running nose, sore throat, and headaches.
2. When in “doubt” about when to get a COVID test you can contact the school or you can refer to the symptoms found in #1.
3. Please consider getting your child vaccinated if they are age-eligible. We are all in this together. Let’s stay healthy and safe.Take 5!!! (w/Mrs. Sphon)
Mindfulness can help with regulating emotions and re-center. They can help us to calm down and focus. It can take just a few minutes and serve as a break during work or when feeling overwhelmed. Try this Activity focusing on the five senses:
· Notice 5 things that you can see - Cast your eyes around and bring attention to five things you might not normally notice.
· Notice 4 things that you can feel - Bring your awareness to four things you are currently feeling (like the texture of your clothes, a breeze, or the smooth surface of the table).
· Notice 3 things that you can hear - Try to tune into the sounds of your surroundings. What can you hear in the background?
· Notice 2 things that you can smell - Tune your senses into smells that you might usually gloss over (smell of the breeze or food from a nearby restaurant or house).
· Notice 1 thing you can taste - Focus on one thing you can taste right now, in this moment (you can even take a sip of coffee or eat something)
Please feel free to contact our very own School Psychologist Mrs. Kaitlyn Sphon, Ed.S., NCSP @ Kaitlyn.sphon@pgcps.org for more “Take 5” support strategies and information. She will be very glad to help you to include more positive ways to strengthen your best self.

To our office staff team for being #1 in Customer Service. Because we live our Falcon P.R.I.D.E. daily. We are Prepared. Respectful. Intelligent. Determined. And Engaged.
Attendance Matters
Remember if your student is unable to attend classes, parents must send an absence note or a handwritten note (8 ½ x 11 sized paper) with your student when your scholar returns to school. Please write your child’s first/last names, include the date, the reason for the absence, and include your telephone number in case we need to contact you. Please ask your child to bring the note to the school office when they arrive in the morning to receive an attendance pass to show their teachers to receive any missed assignments.
