Principal's Memo
Important Safety Reminder!
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Dear BHMS Families,
Our administrators and staff are actively directing students who walk or bike to and from school to use the designated safe routes. These expectations are in place to protect our students. Crossing College Avenue outside of a designated crosswalk or walking across the railroad tracks creates a significant safety risk and could result in serious injury.
Student safety is our highest priority, and we need your partnership in reinforcing important safety expectations during arrival and dismissal.
Students should only cross College Avenue at designated crosswalks and locations where crossing guards are present.
Students should not cross College Avenue in an undesignated area.
Students and families should never cross the railroad tracks as a shortcut or to access an unsafe crossing on College Avenue.
Additionally, students are expected to follow the directions of administrators and school staff during arrival and dismissal. Students who repeatedly disregard staff directions or continue to use unsafe routes may receive consequences in accordance with school expectations.
We ask parents and guardians to please reinforce these expectations with your child and model these same safe practices when walking to or from campus. We recognize that some routes may take a bit longer, but those extra minutes are invaluable in ensuring that every student arrives at school and returns home safely.
Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter and for partnering with us to keep all BHMS students safe.
Respectfully,
Alexis Glenn
