Do you ever tend to go down that rabbit hole of 'what ifs', youtube videos, social media, news and then start to over think things? Does your stress level increase? Does Mr. Anxiety peak his head? Are you aware that these rabbit holes can cause stress on your mind and body?

We are living in a world of those awesome rabbit holes everyday. It is important that we take care of ourselves. When life starts throwing all those rabbits at you at the same time, how do you handle that?

So what is mindfulness?

"Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us."

Read this article to get a better understanding of 'Mindfulness" and the small day to day things you can do help lower the anxiety and stress. Some of these things sound silly but when practiced, they truly help.

On to some announcements!

New semester, grades are starting over! If students grades were not what you/they expected, it is time too refocus.

Students should be advocating for their education. If there are questions, they need to be asked. Start with the teacher and go from there. I promise teachers really aren't that mean and they have huge hearts. If the student is showing that they are working hard in their daily work and trying to do well...I promise, teachers see this. A lot of times the problems that arise at the last minute could have easily been fixed with communication earlier on in the semesters.

Students- be sure you are logging in and checking grades, emails, and classrooms. I know we keep saying this and most students are doing this but weekly it seems like we come across a student that isn't. Not knowing is not an excuse.

Senior Graduation Announcements will be delivered on 1/20/22; 11:20am-12:20pm. If you ordered graduation announcements, students will pick them up in the library. If your senior is not able to, they will be left with Mrs. Harp.

It looks like baby pictures for seniors are coming due soon. Questions please email dana.stroud@littleaxeps.org

Your student should be getting their 1st semester grade card this week, if all goes well. Be looking for that to come home with your student.

Classroom codes for individual classes can be found in the "Class of" G-classroom.

Students, if you are lost in this part of using Google- PLEASE, PLEASE ask a friend, classmate or a faculty person to get you situated. Lots of information goes out this way to students.

Upcoming Important Dates

1/25 Afternoon: 10th grade MATC Interviews

1/25 to 1/27: Ms. K is overflowing with clothes that have been donated to her. She even has some prom dresses. Some time in those three days your student should be walking through this to see if there are any needs. Ms. K needs to purge so whatever isn't taken will be donated I think to the Little Axe Community Center?

2/1: GT Field Trip- Students participating will be notified by Mrs. Radebaugh

Junior State testing dates have been posted to the HS calendar. Mrs. Harp will put out a better schedule soon. If you are making appointments in April please be aware of the main testing days. Students must have taken these three assessments for graduation with the school: ACT, CCRA Science and CCRA History.

ICAP

In advocacy students should be working on their ICAP. This is a graduation requirement. The law and a bunch of information is posted on the link below.

*If your student cannot get into their account, their advocacy teacher now has access to reset all passwords. Every class should be working and talking about this at least once a week during that time frame.

This semester we will be kicking it up a notch on ICAP activities thanks to the Gear Up Grant from the K20 Center. These activities are CCGC (College and Career Going Culture). Please know this is NOT all about college, it is about moving out into the workforce after high school and/or post-secondary education whether that includes a Technology Center or any college level education. We are super excited about the spring events we are planning.

Transcript Requests

To keep from losing a request from a parent or student that is requesting for their transcript to be sent to a college or for a scholarship, we have created a "form" that will notify us of a request. It asks for specific information that is needed for us to successfully send the transcript.

It is posted on the "new" counselor website. (littleaxeps.org, click "Little Axe High School" at the top and at the end of them menu it reads "Counselor's Corner".

Or you may save this LINK directly to your web browser.

Senior information

CAP & GOWN link not working. I think Jostens took that option away. Here is a good link that should allow you to actually check out. Click Here

Please make sure you order asap! As we have told the students and it was talked about during the Senior Information Night…we ask that you do not order a gown from a different company. The blues will not match. If you have a sibling/friend that has graduated in the last 6-7 years and the gown is still in good shape, you may wear it. If you have questions about what you have, please bring the gown to the counselors office and we will see if the blue matches.

If you need assistance in a cap and gown, see Mrs. Stroud.

Jostens was at the school on 11/10 to take orders. If you missed this, you may order online as well. See link above. Please do not send payments to LAHS. Payments are to be made straight to Jostens.

Yearbook Update

20-21 Yearbooks have been in. If you ordered one and have not received it please see Mrs. Stroud. If you would like to order one they are $50 and there are some extras.

21-22 Yearbooks are for sale. You may order directly from the site: Click Here. Mrs. Stroud and I met with our Jostens rep and it sounds like we will be putting out some NEW neat and exciting things for yearbook. Stay tuned!
