A Reminder About Cell Phone & Electronic Device Expectations A Reminder About Cell Phone & Electronic Device Expectations

No Cell Phone
zoom_out_map

As we settle into the school year, we want to remind families about Osseo Area Schools’ expectations regarding cell phones and electronic devices. For elementary and middle school students, cell phones are not permitted during the academic school day. This includes instructional time, lunch, passing times, and other non-instructional portions of the school day.

Students who choose to bring a cell phone, smartwatch, earbuds/AirPods, or other electronic device to school are expected to keep the device stored in their backpack or locker throughout the school day.

A few important reminders:

  • Cell phones should remain put away throughout the school day.
  • Smartwatches and other electronic devices should also remain stored during the school day.
  • If a student needs to contact a family member during the school day, they should come to the office and use a school phone with permission.
  • Families who need to reach their child during the school day should contact the Aspen Ridge main office, and we will make sure the message is relayed.
  • Earbuds/headphones may only be used at designated times for approved instructional purposes and on school-approved devices.
  • Cell phone use is not permitted in locker rooms or bathrooms.

What happens if a student uses a phone?

To help us maintain consistent expectations, the district has established consequences for violations:

  1. First Offense: The device is turned in to the front office for the remainder of the school day. The student may pick it up at the end of the day.
  2. Second Offense: The device is turned in to the office for the remainder of the day and must be picked up by a parent or designated adult.
  3. Third Offense: The device is turned in to the office for the remainder of the day and must be picked up by a parent.
  4. Fourth Offense: A cell phone plan is created, and the phone is no longer permitted on school property.

We appreciate your partnership in helping us keep our students focused, engaged, and present during the school day. Thank you for reminding your child of these expectations and helping us create a learning environment where students can make the most of their time at Aspen Ridge!

November Ballot: Minnesota Constitutional Amendment November Ballot: Minnesota Constitutional Amendment

Families may see a Minnesota constitutional amendment related to school funding on the November 3 ballot. If approved, the amendment would change how Minnesota’s Permanent School Fund is distributed to public schools, potentially providing additional funding to districts without increasing local property taxes or state income taxes.

Osseo Area Schools estimates the change could provide approximately $1 million in additional annual funding for our district.
