2024 Spring PSSA: Information for Grades 3-5
Students in grades three, four, and five in our elementary schools will be participating in the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) during late April and early May. The PSSA (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment) is made up of three separate tests that assess to what degree our students have become proficient in English Language Arts (reading and writing), Mathematics, and Science.
- Grades 3-5 ELA: April 22, 24, 26, 2024
- Grades 3-5 Math: April 29 & 30, 2024
- Grade 4 Science: May 1 & 2, 2024
- Grades 3-5 Make-up Assessments: Ongoing--must be completed by May 10, 2024
The PSSA is an example of assessments that provide achievement and growth data that assist schools in developing educational plans in support of successful school experiences for students. The tests will be scored by the State and results are expected to be returned to the school district during the summer. Parent reports, which identify the results for your child and how to assist him/her in improving, are expected to be available in the fall of the upcoming school year. We ask that during this assessment period, you encourage your child to do his/her best and to be sure he/she takes time to obtain a good night’s sleep and to eat a nourishing breakfast. The PSSA Parent FAQs (Spanish), the Keystone Parent FAQ’s, and Electronic Device Letter serve to address questions you may have, however, do not hesitate to contact Sharon Franciosa if you have additional ones.

Berman Museum Family Night for Evergreen & South Elementary Schools
The Berman Museum extends a special invitation to Perkiomen Valley School District elementary school students and their families.
Tuesday, May 7th
6 – 7:30 p.m.
Soak up the good weather with some good company on our front lawn! Families are invited to join us for an outdoor evening with art activities and tours.
Watch your kids’ creativity bloom as they unleash their inner artists in an outdoor craft. Grown-ups are welcome to craft, too!
Later, enjoy a relaxing evening with a leisurely tour of our Outdoor Sculpture Collection…or, for even more excitement, participate in a fast-paced, competitive scavenger hunt to explore the collection. Who can find the biggest sculpture? Both options offer a fun way for all ages to appreciate public art on the Ursinus College campus.
We look forward to welcoming you and your family. See you on the front lawn!
Note: All students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Siblings are welcome to come too!
Rain location: Lower level of the Berman Museum of Art

2024-25 School Year Parent/Guardian Input
In the final weeks of the school year, Evergreen will begin the scheduling process for the 24-25 school year. We consider class placement to be one of our most important tasks. Each child's academic, social and emotional growth, peer relations, and overall strengths and needs are carefully considered.
Parents and guardians of children entering grades one through five are welcome to complete the google form linked below if you have any information you wish to share regarding your child that will be helpful in class placement. This input will be referenced as students are placed in classes for the 24-25 school year.
24-25 Parent/Guardian Input Google Form
The deadline to submit this form is Friday, May 3rd.
Please submit a form for each child.
While we carefully consider the type of teaching style and qualities of an educator you think will best serve your child, I respectfully ask that you refrain from making specific teacher requests.
Thank you for your support in this process.
New Garden at Middle School East Coming Spring 2024
The Green Team and Loss Group at Middle School East are co-sponsoring a certified butterfly garden and wildlife habitat that was designed by Master Gardeners at Penn State Extension. It will be located at the front of the school by the main office and include 3 benches and a picnic table. This garden is yet to be named by the students but will be a place to memorialize and honor people and events through a personalized brick pathway that will run through the middle of the garden. You can help us fundraise by purchasing a brick for the pathway. We are requesting all brick purchases by Saturday, May 4th.
https://4everbricks.com/donors/PVMSE/
Please email Dr. Clune (sclune@pvsd.org) directly if you want to sponsor the picnic table ($1,400) or a bench ($800) or be listed as a sponsor ($1000) on the sign.
PVSD Foundation Teacher Appreciation Campaign
We have awesome teachers and staff at Evergreen!
PVSD Foundation’s "Teacher Appreciation Campaign" aims to honor the invaluable contributions of our incredible Evergreen Elementary teachers and staff by providing them with the support they deserve. Celebrate our teachers and school staff in your child(ren)’s lives through this initiative. When you contribute to the campaign, PVSD Foundation will send a note of appreciation to the teacher or staff member you have designated.
May Is Mental Health Awareness Month
May is Mental Health Awareness and Physical Fitness & Sports Month! PVSD is thrilled to celebrate health and wellness within our community, with families, and students. We will be participating in a Green Light Campaign, lighting the way for health and wellness.
Please join us in wearing green on May 1st for mental health awareness, and during the month of May, we will be engaging in a calendar wellness challenge that focuses on physical and mental wellness. For more information, click here!
Spring Review & Practice of Safety Protocols
Ensuring the safety for our students, staff, and visitors is a top priority.
It is important that students learn how to be safe. During April and May classrooms will review our various safety protocols. We will also practice the different Standard Response Protocols including the Hold, Secure, Shelter, Lockdown, and Evacuate safety drills. Student friendly and age-appropriate language is used.
For more information about our emergency preparedness, please visit https://iloveuguys.org/The-Standard-Response-Protocol.html
Reminder: Physical Exams for 5th Grade Students Entering Middle School
Just a reminder!! PA state law requires a medical examination for all students in sixth grade. It is recommended that this examination be performed by your family physician since he/she can best evaluate your child’s health and update immunizations. An examination completed on or after July 1, 2022 (up to one year prior to the student’s entry into sixth grade) will suffice. The physical exam report (distributed to all 5th-grade students ) is to be returned to your child’s school nurse by the first week of the 2023-2024 school year.
It is a good idea to make a copy for your records.
Please note: The PA Department of Health immunization recommendations for this age group include 1 dose of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap), and 1 dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV). These vaccines will be required for entrance into 7th grade unless a letter of exemption is on file.
Thank you!
Mrs. McOwen
