Ms. Walhof and Class President Reagan Lodden with Senior Gift

Happy Friday!

It has been an emotional week here at ThunderRidge as our Seniors finished up their high school careers. What a team effort each student’s journey is! Obviously, our students take the lead, but - like all of us - they need help and support from time to time. Thank you so much for all you do to support the success of your Grizzlies. Our Seniors gifted us with a beautiful, welded grizzly that is now taking pride of place outside of upper C. Thank you to Reagan Lodden (pictured) and Tatum Brimhall for helping us get that organized!

We celebrated our end of the year instrumental concert on Wednesday with fun and joyful performances (including some kazoo solos - a first for me - and a welcome one!). Thursday evening, we had a packed house for our students’-choice choir concert and our IB Diploma Programme Senior dinner. Our girls 4x800 set a new record (9.13 - if you want to know!) at yesterday’s track meet.

Today, students got their yearbooks (if they ordered one) and they are truly lovely! Great job to the yearbook team for this amazing work. We have a limited supply of yearbooks still remaining if your student missed out. You can purchase one at our bookkeeping window and then students can stop by C214 or F221 to pick it up from Ms. Woody.

We feted our Seniors with a grilled lunch while our 9-11th graders celebrated the end of the year in their respective seminars. We closed the day with the Gauntlet, an opportunity for our Senior students and our staff to say goodbye to each other. Then, we welcomed our (huge-seeming) class of rising 9th graders to join us in the gym, learn some TR chants, and celebrate their moving up as well!

Tonight, we celebrate our Mamma Mia award nominees (and hopefully winners!) at the Bobby G awards for Theater. We also had another winner this week as TRHS student, Dane Kruse, took second place in the DCSD Film Festival for his short SciFi film. Our boys’ baseball team went to Erie today for their next steps on their journey to State.

Tomorrow, we encourage anyone available to come to Toepfer Park from 9-11AM to celebrate the opening of the accessible playground. What’s the connection to TR, you might ask? This play area was designed and fundraised for by some TR students last year as a part of their CAS (community, activity, and service) project.

Remember! Finals for 9th-11th graders start next week Friday. Summer is right around the corner. (If you are doing any remodeling this summer and want to donate any working, full-sized fridges, just let Mr. Sicard know (cory.sicard@dcsdk12.org). We need new ones for science to store sciency things and to keep them cool!

Hugs,

Liz

Student schedules for the 2026-2027 school year will be available for viewing in Infinite Campus beginning Friday, May 29th at 3:00pm. Please be aware that Infinite Campus does release in batches, so it can take up to 24 hours to see your schedule. If you don't see it by 3:00pm on May 30th, please email Amie McCarty (Amie.McCarty@dcsdk12.org).

Counselors will be available for schedule corrections on Monday, June 1st from 9:00-11:00am in the Commons.

Students may only see a counselor during these times for the following reasons:

  • The student is enrolled in the wrong level of a class (e.g., incorrect level of Math).
  • The student has a gap in their schedule (i.e., too many off periods).
  • The student is missing a core class (English, Math, Science, or Social Studies).
  • The student is scheduled to participate in a CTE/Legacy program next year.

Counselors will not be making changes for requests related to different electives, teacher preferences, or off periods.

More of the same from IB this week as exams continue. With that being said, keep the same things in mind as last week!!

Arrival Time
All students must arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of their exam. This allows time for check-in, seating, and distribution of materials without unnecessary stress or delays. Late arrivals may not be permitted to test, so please plan accordingly.

Exam Location
All IB exams are being held at the Mission Hills Church

Students should be sure they know the route, allow extra travel time for traffic, and arrive ready to go with all required materials.

General Reminders

  • Bring required materials (pens, pencils, calculator if permitted, etc.)
  • Leave prohibited items (phones, smartwatches, notes) outside the testing room
  • Get a good night’s sleep and eat beforehand
  • Stay for the full duration of the exam session

We are proud of how our students have represented ThunderRidge during this important time. Let’s keep the momentum going and finish strong!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the IB team at trhsib11@dcsdk12.org

Roxborough State Park is currently seeking mascots for 6th Annual Bigfoot Goin' to Rock the Rox event

Roxborough State Park is currently seeking six enthusiastic people to be our Bigfoot and Elbert (CPW big horn sheep) mascots at our 6th Annual Bigfoot Goin' to Rock the Rox event. This public event is on Saturday, June 6 from 9:00am - 2:00pm, with mascots needing to be there from 8:00am-2:30pm.

Roxborough State Park partners with the Leave No Trace organization and was the first park in Colorado to receive the Gold Standard designation of achievement. The event offers many fun opportunities for the public to learn the principles of recreating responsibly. An important part of the day is our guest appearances of Bigfoot and Elbert. You will switch off being a mascot and being a handler for photo and engagement opportunities with our visitors. No speaking is required. You earn community service time towards graduation requirements while having a lot of fun!

Always a Grizzly… my son and I did it a few years back and the majority of our mascots have been recruited from TRHS over the years. If you are interested or would like additional information, please email me, Alex Fountain, at apfountain65@gmail.com.

Thank you very much for your interest and consideration!
