Gold Rush Elementary Principal's Message - September 15, 2023

“Foster Growth by Challenging Critical Thinkers to Take Risks,

Honor Differences & Care for Others”

STUDENT LEADERSHIP STUDENT LEADERSHIP

Developing strong student leaders is a goal at Gold Rush. One way we do this is through the Student Council. Student Council is responsible for improving our school through school and community events, such as the Legend Homecoming Parade and Wish Week. In addition, Student Council spearheads school projects including recycling and the food drive.

This week fourth and fifth graders held elections for president, vice president and secretary. Students created flyers and gave persuasive speeches in front of their peers. We are proud of all students for their desire to make our school an even better place!

ONE BOOK ONE DISTRICT ONE BOOK ONE DISTRICT

Gold Rush is participating in the District’s One Book, One District initiative. Students from across the District read the same book and engage in a variety of activities related to the text. This year’s book is titled, Becoming a Good Creature by Si Montgomery and Rebecca Green. It is a story about how animals model character traits, such as respect and patience. It also highlights important life lessons, including forgiveness, finding a common ground and valuing your family. Click here to hear the story read by the author.

Students enjoyed learning how animals can serve as nature’s teachers. In art students painted an animal that they felt embodied a given attribute. Students created dogs for friendship, ants to represent strong work ethic and turles for resilience.

We thank Ms. Dazzio for bringing this book to life in art!

COLLABORATION IN THE S.T.E.A.M.M. LAB COLLABORATION IN THE S.T.E.A.M.M. LAB

This week students have been engaged in hands-on projects in the S.T.E.A.M.M. lab. Students are exploring science and engineering standards with Mr. Thomas. After listening to the beloved story, Goldie Locks and the Three Bears, first and second graders are working together to create the perfect chair for Goldie Locks. Second graders are developing a durable house for the three little pigs and intermediate students are building and racing wind sails.

Each project requires both creativity and collaboration. Students have enjoyed working together and experimenting with a variety of materials and designs. After testing their products partners are revising their designs and making improvements.

We all appreciate Mr. Thomas’ engaging lessons!

The net impact to taxpayers if both initiatives pass is an additional $20 per year per $100K of assessed home value. See the video below and/or click here for additional information.
