Previous Information
State Law Regarding Cell Phone/Personal Technology Devices Law for Schools
As we prepare for the 2026–2027 school year, we want to remind families that Oklahoma’s “Bell-to-Bell, No Cell” legislation (House Bill 1276) is permanent state law. Oklahoma public schools are legally required to maintain phone-free and distraction-free campuses from the moment the morning bell rings until final dismissal.
Mustang Public Schools remains fully committed to upholding this law and will continue to enforce state requirements with fidelity across all campuses, in alignment with BOE Policy #5080.
Powered Off and in Backpacks. All personal electronic devices brought to campus must remain powered off and stored in a backpack for the duration of the school day (from bell to bell). To ensure our learning environment remains focused, any device that is seen, heard, or activated during the school day will be subject to progressive disciplinary actions in accordance with district policy.
We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these expectations at home so our classrooms remain focused, safe, and engaging places to learn.
PTD Policy
Mustang Middle School Personal Technology Device (PTD) Policy
All cell phone/PTD practices at MMS will follow Mustang Public School district policy #2140. All practices/policies apply to all students with or without contracts on file and apply to all non-school issued technology devices. PTDs include but are not limited to laptops, computers, tablets, cellular phones, smart phones, smart watches, ear pods, or headphones. Portable speakers are specifically prohibited at all times.
Cell phones/PTDs are allowed:
Before school in the gym and the cafeteria.
After school in the cafeteria.
To be used only by the student to whom it belongs.
*Any of the above may be revised anytime at administration’s discretion.
*Cell phone/PTD use in any instance does not grant permission for other situations.
Cell phones/PTDs are NOT allowed (must be off and inside backpack):
In the classroom, between classes and in the bathrooms.
To be used to photograph or record another student or staff member (includes buses).
In the hallways.
After leaving the gym or cafeteria before school.
During a school assembly.
In any manner that causes a disruption to the school day for any student or staff member.
To access inappropriate material while on school property.
To be used to bully, harass, threaten, intimidate, or otherwise tease another student.
In a hand or pocket during above stated restricted times or areas.
Standard consequences of violation of school cell phone/PTD policy/contract (actual consequences may vary due to severity of the violation):
1st violation: Cell phone/PTD will be kept in the office & picked up by the student at the end of the day;
2nd violation: Cell phone/PTD will be kept in the office & picked up by the student at the end of the day;
3rd violation: Cell phone/PTD will be kept in the office until a parent/guardian picks it up in the office;
4th violation: Cell phone/PTD will be kept in the office until a parent/guardian picks it up in the office. Administration and parents will discuss further actions/consequences.
SUBSEQUENT INFRACTIONS WILL RESULT IN OUT OF SCHOOL SUSPENSION.
*These consequences apply to the incidents per student and not incidents per PTD.
*The school and its employees are in no way responsible for any theft or damage of cell phones/PTDs while on school grounds. The school is not obligated to investigate the loss or damage of any cell phone/PTD.
If you need to get in contact with your child, please contact the MMS office at 405-376-2448.
Mustang Public School Attendance Policy
STUDENT ATTENDANCE POLICY
Policy #5020
Educational programs are built on the foundation of continuity of instruction and participation in the classroom setting. Consistent classroom attendance can lead to the development of strong work habits, responsibility, and self-discipline. Because attendance also has a definite correlation to academic performance, the quality of a student’s education suffers when he/she is absent from class. Students are encouraged to maintain regular attendance and to schedule non-academic activities during times which will not conflict with classroom instruction.
Chronic absenteeism is a significant challenge facing students, educators, and districts all over the country. The number of allowable absences during the 2026/2027 school year will be eight (8) per semester. Students who exceed eight (8) unexcused absences in a semester shall receive a NC (No Credit) for that class, unless they have failed the class and then they will receive an F.
Fight Chronic Absenteeism
Every Moment Matters
We’re excited to continue our #EveryMomentMatters campaign to celebrate the value of regular school attendance! Through this initiative, we’ll be sharing classroom achievements and daily highlights on social media to show just how much learning and connection happens when students are here.
That said, a healthy school starts with healthy students. Please don't send your child to school if they are contagiously ill. To help you balance attendance with well-being, we’ve posted easy-to-read infographics on our website outlining exactly when it's best to stay home.
For more information on Chronic Absenteeism, please visit the OSDE website at https://sde.ok.gov/chronic-absenteeism.
Daily Schedule
Below is the daily bell schedule. Additional information regarding electives, W.I.N. time, and ELA is below the schedule.
Important Dates-MPS Calendar

Mustang Public School Food/Drink Consumption
Food and drinks must be consumed in designated cafeteria or commons areas unless otherwise authorized by school administration.
Outside food or drinks brought by a parent/guardian may only be consumed by their child and may not be shared with other students unless approved by the school for a specific school-sponsored activity (e.g., classroom parties, celebrations, or special events).
Students shall not possess, consume, or distribute energy drinks, foods, candies, supplements, or products containing stimulants, excessive caffeine, or other ingredients that may alter behavior, mood, alertness, or physical condition while on school property or at school-sponsored activities.
School administration reserves the right to determine whether a product falls within this prohibition and may confiscate prohibited items, and disciplinary steps may be taken.
Exceptions may be made for documented medical needs as authorized by the school nurse or administration.
These rules are found in the Mustang Public Schools Student Handbook, specifically within the guidelines outlined alongside Board Policy #5080 (Student Conduct & Discipline)
Water Bottles at Mustang Middle School
Mustang Middle School Water Bottle Guideline: all containers must be spill-proof. If a bottle leaks when turned upside down, it will need to be taken to the front office, where it can be picked up at the end of the school day.
Dress Code
As students transition to middle school, there may be some questions related to our dress code. You may see the dress code below or click on the link to learn more about the dress code.
Important Drop Off and Pick Up Information
Please review the diagram below for our student drop-off and pick-up traffic flow. To ensure the safety of all our students and staff, please keep the following guidelines in mind:
Use Designated Crosswalks: Students should never walk across the parking lot. If they need to head north of the school, they must always use the designated crosswalks on the east and west sides of the lot.
Keep the North Lot Clear: Please do not park in the north parking lot to pick up your student. Doing so forces students to walk through the active pickup line and cross multiple lanes of moving traffic.
Follow the Traffic Lines: Please follow the arrows painted on the pavement to keep traffic moving smoothly and safely.
A Big Thank You! We want to extend a huge thank you to Mr. Peter Bostwick! We are incredibly fortunate to have him at MMS, helping to keep our students safe in the parking lot and at the west crosswalk every morning and afternoon.
Mustang Transportation
Mustang Public Schools has a dedicated transportation department. Please take time to read the message from our transportation department. You may also visit the website to gain helpful and necessary information about routes, buses, bus stop locations, and much more!
A Message From the Transportation Department
Please review the district-wide expectations regarding student conduct on buses. In order to provide safe transportation to and from school, it is very important that all students adhere to the following expectations.
At Mustang Public Schools, student safety is always our top priority. Each day, our Transportation team works to provide safe and dependable service for students traveling to and from school. We appreciate our families' partnership in helping ensure every bus ride is safe, respectful, and focused on getting students where they need to be. Riding a MustangPS bus is a privilege. The same behavior expectations that apply at school also apply at the bus stop and on the bus. Bus drivers are responsible for the safety of all students on board and have the authority to give directions and address student behavior while students are riding. To help every route run safely and smoothly, please review the expectations below with your student.
Bus Conduct: Quick Guide for Students and Families
Before the Bus Arrives
● Be at your assigned bus stop 5 minutes early.
● Use safe and respectful behavior while waiting.
● Stay out of the street and away from traffic.
● Be ready to board when the bus arrives.
While Riding the Bus
● Follow the bus driver's directions the first time.
● Stay seated while the bus is moving.
● Treat the driver and other students with respect.
● Keep hands, feet, backpacks, and other belongings to yourself.
● Keep the aisle clear at all times.
● Use a quiet voice so the driver can focus on the road.
Do Not Bring or Do These Things on the Bus
● No fighting, horseplay, shouting, profanity, or refusing to follow the driver's instructions.
● No throwing objects inside or outside the bus.
● No putting hands, arms, heads, or objects out of the windows.
● No tampering with windows, emergency exits, or bus equipment.
● No food, drinks, balloons, glass containers, tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, or trash.
● No vandalism or any behavior that distracts the driver or creates an unsafe environment. Important Reminder
● Riding the bus is a privilege.
● Unsafe or disruptive behavior may result in a written conduct report reviewed by school administration.
● Consequences may include a warning, parent contact, suspension from bus privileges, loss of bus privileges for the remainder of the school year, and/or school discipline depending on the severity of the incident.
● Students who vandalize or damage a school bus may lose bus-riding privileges until damages are paid in full. Bottom Line: Be early. Be seated. Be respectful. Listen to the driver. Keep the bus safe for everyone.
Thank you for helping us keep Mustang PS buses safe and respectful for all students.
