A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Hello Montessori families!
We had a wonderful short week. When our school first opened, there was a tradition of preparing a full meal the day before Thanksgiving break. Many of the values that are behind Thanksgiving are also Montessori values - such as community and preparing food together. As our school grew, the tradition got too big to handle. This year, all classrooms read the book Stone Soup and prepared a classroom feast to celebrate our community. We appreciate all the families who sent in tasty treats for the feast!
We are at the end of Trimester 1! One third of our school year has been completed! Our teachers are working on finalizing grades, and trimester 1 report cards will be viewable in Infinite Campus starting Thursday, December 4th. We grade on Standards Based Grading, which is different than most of us were graded in school. Please see the image of the Hamburger Rubric to help explain Standards Based Grading. In this model, a 3 is proficient, or equivalent to an A! If you'd like more of an explanation of Standards Based Grading, please feel free to reach out!
Thanks and have a great weekend!
Elizabeth
UW-Milwaukee Middle School Honors Band Festival
During the weekend of Nov. 21-23, 8th grade band student Ellie Lakatos participated in the UW-Milwaukee Middle School Honors Band Festival. Ellie was nominated by her band director, Mr. Burmeister, to participate in this festival which featured other accomplished middle school musicians from across SE Wisconsin. Ellie participated in rehearsals and clinics with a guest conductor and UWM music faculty and staff, which culminated in a group performance on Sunday Nov. 23rd.
PTSA CORNER
Thank you!
We are so grateful to all of the caregivers, volunteers and students that have joined us at a PTSA event this month! Whether you donated items to Montessori Marketplace, dinner at Qdoba (still awaiting final results) or attended the PTSA meeting. Any of your time is truly appreciated. Please consider becoming a paying member of the PTSA for only $10 for an individual or $18 for a family membership.
Montessori Marketplace Update
We learned a lot in planning our first ever community rummage sale, Montessori Marketplace. Thanks to your support, we raised over $700! We will be working with Ms. Elizabeth and staff to determine the best use of these funds to support WMS teacher's wish lists.
Winter Order Form is live!
This snowy season, we have three spectacular products to share with you. These jolly products will put you in the mood for a wonderful winter of joy! The weather outside is frightful, but our products are so delightful!
