Treaty Land Acknowledgement

We will gather on Treaty 6 Territory, traditional lands of the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota, and Ojibwe, and the homeland of the Metis. We are dedicated to ensuring that the spirit of reconciliation and Treaty 6 is honored and respected. We also reaffirm our relationship in the past present and future with the many Indigenous groups found within our community.

What is Indigenous Peoples Day?

This is a day for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. The Canadian Constitution recognizes these three groups as Aboriginal peoples, also known as Indigenous peoples.

PPCS staff and students recognize the value of diversity within our society and acknowledge the unique and valuable contribution of all cultural backgrounds to our school community. On June 21, we will take time to acknowledge, celebrate and learn about the Indigenous cultures specifically. This is an opportunity for our students to serve our students as they take on the role of teachers for the day. Through the work of our grade 8 students, Mrs. Sharon Meyer and a variety of guest presenters and teachers, our students will be able to make there way from station to station learning about and experiencing a variety of Indigenous traditions and teachings.

We are looking forward to the opportunity to host such an event and are thankful for the rich cultural contributions of our Indigenous Peoples to our community.
