Learning About Our Environment!
The Grade 4/5 recently enjoyed an informative field trip to the water treatment facility, Camrose Centra- Cam Recycling Centre, and the landfill. Students learned what happens to our water and waste, how recycling helps reduce garbage, and the importance of responsible waste management. This hands-on experience helped students better understand our impact on the environment and the important role we all play as environmental stewards. We are excited to put our learning into action by making thoughtful choices to help care for our environment! Thank you to the Battle River Watershed Alliance and its supporters for offering this field trip for our students!
Digital Citizenship: Our Choices Matter
Creating a safe, respectful and welcoming school community is a shared responsibility—both online and in person. As part of our digital citizenship learning, students are being reminded that the choices they make online can have an impact on themselves and others.
Students are encouraged to:
Post. Pause. Think. Stop and think before posting, sending, liking or sharing.
Don’t join in. What we say, share and do online can affect other people.
Check in. If something online does not feel right, talk to a trusted adult.
Speak up. If you see something that could hurt someone, tell an adult who can help.
Know when to step away. Sometimes the best choice is to put the device down and be present with the people around us.
We want every student to know that they have a role in creating a kind and positive online community. If something online feels confusing, uncomfortable or unsafe, they can always talk to a trusted adult at school.
Our goal is not to keep students away from technology, but to help them develop the skills and good decision-making they need to use it safely, responsibly and respectfully.
We appreciate parents reinforcing these same messages regularly at home and in the community. Supporting student safety and wellness is a shared responsibility, and consistent messaging across school, home, and community can strengthen its impact. By working together, we can help students develop the awareness, skills, and habits that support safety and well-being.

Spartan Tough, Thank you!
We would like to give a huge thank you to the Regional Fire Service volunteers for delivering first aid at our Spartan Tough Race. They graciously volunteer their time to ensure that everyone is safe at our race site. A special thank you to Larry for arranging the volunteers and allowing us to use his side by side on race day, and a special thank you to Rob, Trista, Becca, Luke, and Noah for volunteering their time and keeping everyone well cared for when needed. You are the best!
Personal Communication Devices (cellphones, smart watches ect)
Alberta government has an order around the use of personal communication devices in schools. https://kings-printer.alberta.ca/Documents/MinOrders/2024/Education/2024_014_Education.pdf. New Norway School aligns with this ministerial order and BRSD's Administrative Procedure 135.
We also ask families to review our expectations for personal mobile devices with their children. Students may not use personal mobile devices bell to bell . Devices must be powered off or set to silent and stored in a backpack, bag or locked locker during the day.
New Norway School's mobile-device expectations will be reviewed with students during the first week of school. We appreciate families reinforcing these expectations at home and helping us keep instructional time focused on learning.
Visiting New Norway School
To ensure a safe environment for all, we kindly ask that all parents and guests come to the school office upon arrival during school hours. Please refrain from using side doors to enter classrooms or the gym unless it is during authorized after hours event. The school hallways and instructional areas are reserved exclusively for students and staff during drop off, pick up and instructional time.
We appreciate your support and understanding as we prioritize the safety of our school community.
Pick up and Drop off areas:
To ensure the safety of our students we are asking parents to not use the staff parking lot area. While we understand that this takes away some convenience, we are concerned about the safety of your children.
Thank you for your attention to this.
ATHLETICS
Spartans Win the 1A 2026 SSA Provincial XC Running Championships!
Cross country running can teach us not only how to control and push our body and mind, it can teach us important life lessons: We can do hard things. Resilience. Test and expand our limits. Overcome obstacles, without giving up. Persevere through challenges, without giving up. Help us to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. That others elevate us. We elevate others. Together we can achieve greatness. The importance of comradery. Pain is temporary, pride and achievement last forever. Balance is the key. Ayla Masse, Karl Isaac, Hunter Leepart , Oswald Enarson and Tave Cotter have been working on these life lessons through running for years now. Not only have they excelled in their fitness, fortitude, abilities, and character they have found great success. The ultimate success at the high school level in XC running. The 1A SSA Provincial Championship! Best in the Province! Congratulations! Tradition. Legacy. Integrity. Student-First. Purpose. It is the Way . . . The Spartan Way.
Senior's Night - Volleyball
We have a tradition at New Norway School to honour and recognize our Senior students (grade 12s) who play our sports teams. We recognize them at the last regular season home game of their respective seasons because it may be the last time they put on the Spartan jersey, represent and play in the Hugh Nester Gymnasium. We recognize their commitment to our school and our athletic program over the years. We recognize their leadership and role modeling. We recognize their dedication and their sacrifices. We recognize their hard work and efforts. We recognize them upholding the key tenets of our athletic program. Integrity. Student-First. And Purpose. Nights like these are special. They are filled with energy, excitement, nervousness, smiles, laughter and tears. Special nonetheless. We just held one such Senior’s Night for our Varsity volleyball teams. Our Volleyball program is respected and even feared all over the province for many years. Our graduating Seniors this year have contributed to this standard of Excellence in our Volleyball program. Thank you Amy Mowat, Mercedez Rasmussen, Shaunie Penner, Sara Stephens, Jonathan Krause, Jace Bertschi, Simon Melson and Easton Evenson. This is your Legacy. You will not be forgotten. Once a Spartan, Always a Spartan!
Spartan Tough
Born to Run.
We are all Born to Run. Running is all inclusive. Anyone can do it. Any age, any ability. You do not need equipment. You do not need a gym or a specific field. You do not need a lot of financial commitment. It can be done any time of year. It can be done anywhere. It can be done anytime of the day. It can be done for any length of time you want. It can be done all of your life. It can be done for fitness. It can be done for mental wellness. It can be done to compete. It can be done to lose yourself in it and relieve everyday stress . It can be done to socialize and be with others. It can be done alone or it can be done with others. It can be done just for fun. We are all Born to Run. This XC Running season we had from Kinders to Grade 12s train and go to races. We had Kinders to Grade 12s ( and beyond ;) ) run for all the reasons above. New Norway School would like to thank all of the parents, family members and alumni that came out this season to help out wherever they could! Without you, our students would not have had as many incredible opportunities to run and would not have had so much fun doing it! THANK YOU ! You are the best! Keep running, we are all Born to Run.

I’d like to acknowledge that we are on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional meeting grounds, gathering place, and travelling route to the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, Dene and Nakota Sioux. We acknowledge all the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries.
