November - A time to Remember
As we move into November, our school community will take time to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who have served our country and to recognize the importance of remembrance, gratitude, and peace. Throughout the month, students will have opportunities to learn about the contributions of Veterans and Indigenous Veterans and to consider how we can honour their service in meaningful ways.
Families are warmly invited to join us for our upcoming assemblies:
-
Indigenous Veterans Day Assembly
Friday, November 6 at 9:00 am
-
Remembrance Day Assembly
Tuesday, November 10 at 9:00 am
We look forward to gathering as a school community to recognize and honour those who have served. Parents and family members are welcome to attend either or both assemblies.
Lest We Forget. πΊ
No Time Change this Year
A friendly reminder that while British Columbia would traditionally move clocks back one hour this weekend, clocks will not be changing this year, and we will remain on our current time.
As many phones, smart devices, and digital calendars may be set to automatically adjust for the time change, we encourage families to double-check their settings over the weekend to ensure they are displaying the correct time.
We look forward to seeing everyone at school on Monday at the usual time! Thank you for taking a moment to verify your devices and calendars. β°
Halloween Message
We had a wonderful day at school today and hope that all of our students and families enjoy a fun, safe, and memorable Halloween tomorrow!
As students take part in Halloween festivities, we encourage families to prioritize safety by ensuring costumes are comfortable, visible after dark, and suitable for moving around in neighbourhoods and at community events.
As a reminder, when students return to school on Monday, we ask that they limit the number of Halloween treats they bring to school. While we know many students will be excited to share their Halloween experiences, keeping treats at home helps minimize distractions and supports a healthy learning environment for all students.
We wish everyone a happy and safe Halloween! πππ»
Winter Concert - Save the Date
Our music teacher, Ms. Yamamoto, would like to invite families to save the date for our upcoming Winter Concert!
Students have been working hard in music classes and are excited to share songs that help celebrate the holiday season. This special event will provide an opportunity for students to showcase their learning and celebrate together as a school community. Along with musical performances, students will share poems, stories, and some of their favourite memories from the year.
To help accommodate our families, performances will be divided alphabetically by student last name:
Winter Concert Details
- Wednesday, December 16, 5:30 pm - Last Names A-K
- Thursday, December 17, 5:30 pm - Last Names L-Z
- Location: Black Mountain Elementary School
We hope you will join us for this festive event as we celebrate our students' hard work and the joy of the season. More information will be shared as the concert dates approach.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you there! πΆβοΈπ
Looking for Volunteers
Our PAC plays an important role in making many wonderful opportunities possible for our students. From Hot Lunch and the Book Fair to school events, equipment, learning resources, and support for field studies, the time and energy contributed by our parent community has a significant impact on our school.
To make these programs and events possible, we need your help! There are a variety of ways to volunteer throughout the year, whether you can help regularly or only for a specific event. Our PAC is currently especially looking for support with the Hot Lunch Program, including volunteers who may be available on Mondays and every other Friday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Please take a look at the attached PAC information and volunteer sign-up sheet to learn more about the many ways you can get involved. If you are able to lend a hand, even a small amount of your time can make a big difference!
Reporting Student Absences
If your child will be absent or late, please remember to report their absence using SchoolMessenger. Families can report absences online clicking the image below or by downloading the SchoolMessenger app to their mobile device.
Using SchoolMessenger helps us keep our attendance information accurate and ensures we know that your child is safe and accounted for.
