Monarch Messenger

January 16, 2026
From Doan's Desk...
So it is only the first full week of the second semester. My message last week was about finishing up finals and getting this semester started. However, it is already time for school administration and counselors to begin focusing on the 2026-2027 school year planning.
Last week, is when BVSD sent out the first round of choice enrollment acceptance to families. On February 5th, we host the 8th Grade Transition Night to begin prepping our incoming class of 9th grade students for registration. By the end of February, the counselors will be going to classrooms to talk to our rising 10th-12th grade students about their course selections for next year. All of this is to say, although we have a lot of things going on at school right now, there is always an eye towards what comes next.

Proposed changes for bikers and pedestrians accessing campus from Superior
After receiving numerous comments about pedestrian safety for accessing the Monarch school campus, the Town of Superior, City of Louisville, and Boulder Valley School District are partnering to install a protected bike lane on 88th St to allow for safer and more comfortable travel along the corridor for school children and parents.
The bike lane will accommodate bi-directional biking, and the sidewalks will be reserved for people walking during school drop-off and pick-up. Vertical delineator posts will be used to separate the bike lane from the northbound vehicle travel lane and will reach from Promenade Dr up to Campus Drive.
Future plans for this corridor include applying for a Safe Streets For All grant to improve the bike lane permanently, tying in to paved paths at the Redtail Ridge development, and routing through a future underpass at Campus Drive.
This improvement is intended to help achieve the goals outlined in the Superior Transportation Plan and Superior Vision Zero Action Plan.

BVSD NEWS
Weather Delays and Closures
Wondering what to expect in case of a weather closure in all or part of BVSD?
Under all but the most extreme conditions, school officials have a responsibility to keep school in session. During Colorado winters, snow and ice are to be expected. As always, BVSD respects a parent's decision to keep students home from school or delay their arrival due to weather conditions. Contact the school's attendance office and the absence will be excused.
* No notices means no closures or significant delays have been reported.
