RMS Monday Message

August 26th, 2024

RMS MondayMessageAugust 26th, 2024

Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year!

We are excited to welcome our new and returning students and their families to Rombout Middle School!

The Monday Message is a bi-weekly newsletter that is meant to keep the RMS Community up to date on important information and upcoming events.

It has been busy at our building since the last school bus pulled off of the property, with construction occurring within and on the outside of our building. Some of the projects included renovated Art Classrooms, renovated Science Classrooms, and new roofing. We are excited about these improvements!

The first day of school for students is September 4th!

We hope that you have a great rest of your summer!

Important Arrival and Dismissal Reminders

Arrival: If you plan on dropping off your student in the morning, we ask that you use the Kiosk Parking Lot (the lot with the Flag Pole). Note that our Kiosk Lot and Mattaewan does get backed up in the morning. Please plan accordingly and leave a few minutes earlier than you otherwise would. We ask that you pull up as far as you can in the loop when dropping off. Security, Administration, and Faculty will be assisting with this process. The bus loop parking lot is strictly for busses to drop off/pick up students and faculty/staff parking. Please do not use this lot for dropping off or picking up your student.

Dismissal: 6th grade dismissal is at 2:39pm and 7th/8th grade dismissal is at 2:42pm. Busses typically leave RMS at 2:50pm. Please give a few extra minutes for busses to arrive home the first few days of school. If you pick up your student at dismissal, you may utilize the Kiosk lot or Robert Cahill Drive (behind RMS near Memorial Park). Please do not use the bus/faculty lot.

Incoming 6th Grade Orientations

Good Afternoon Incoming 6th Grade Families,

We have some important changes to our 6th Grade Orientations that we wanted to share with you.

We are not able to access the building on our regularly scheduled orientation day this Friday 9/30 and have to reschedule.

We are going to reschedule the orientation to the evening of Tuesday, September 3rd at the times below.

The orientation is split into two sessions based on the elementary school your student attended. If they did not attend one of our four elementary schools, they may attend either session. The sessions are split to allow us to better assist you and lessen how many people we have in the cafeteria and hallways at a time. When you arrive to RMS, please head to the Cafeteria where our orientation will begin.

Session 1: 4:00pm - 5:30pm (South Ave and Sargent Students)

Session 2: 6:00pm - 7:30pm (JVF and Glenham Students)

We understand that starting middle school can be a time of mixed emotions, for students and families alike. Please know that as a building, we are committed to assisting incoming 6th Grade Students in their transition into middle school, especially during the first few weeks of school. Our 6th Graders have their own hall exchange, separate from the 7th & 8th Graders, to help them find their classrooms. Our faculty, staff, and administration line the hallways and are always willing to help a student find a classroom, location, or someone in the building. Lastly, our faculty and staff are understanding that moving classroom to classroom for the first time can be challenging and our teachers will give a grace period during the first few weeks of school for students who may run late to a room.

The good news is that the construction in the building is almost complete and we are looking forward to welcoming all of our students and staff back on September 4th!

Have a great evening and enjoy the last few days of summer break!

Sincerely,

RMS Administration
