BeeArtful
October 2025
A letter from our leader Janice
We all love receiving a letter. There's even an old song: "I'm going to sit right down and write myself a letter..." Just imagine that letter coming from someone in the fiber art world. Wouldn't it be amazing if Kaffe Fassett dropped you a line to rave about your fabric choices in your latest quilt? Or Sue Spargo popped up to say how stunning your stitches look on your new wool creation? Maybe Carol Bryant Fallert mailed you to gush over your one of a kind wall hanging? Personally, I would love Marcia Derse to ask me to collaborate on a new line of fabric. Well, a gal can dream can't she? I know what I would write if I was sending a note to the BeeArtful's. I would say that I admire your enthusiasm and endless curiosity for everything related to the fiber art world. I'd definitely mention your adventurous spirit for trying new projects and your kindness in helping each other learn and grow. I would say that you are the backbone of an industry of stitchers and you are the best of the best. I'd end my letter with 'keep stitching.'
See you in October.

Critique Documents for reference
https://www.janedunnewold.com/resources/critiques
One is a checklist that can be used as a guideline when looking at a quilt - this is published on her website as part of her creative strength training class.
The second is a detailed essay she wrote concerning the process.
I hope that these documents will help the Bee Artful group conduct critique sessions that are productive.
Letter from the editor
I am so sorry to have missed the October meeting! No worries though as Geri is going to generously repeat the class and teach us how to make a sewing kit at our November retreat on Wednesday. I am currently sitting in a Juneau AK coffee shop as it is our last day and true to southeast AK fall weather, it is rainy and starting to get colder. Even with the rain, AK is a great source of artistic inspiration given the incredible landscapes, wildlife, and native Alaskan art. This trip was to the southeast section of the state. We did a DIY tour that inevitably produced weather delays, etc but I am so glad we came back to this beautiful and awe-inspiring state.
I am happy to convey all of these wonderful "goings on" via this newsletter. Try to get things to me in advance of the end of the month via email (mandmoliver@gmail.com) or text. If you put the word "newsletter" somewhere in the message line I will be able to find it easier (if using email). See you soon.
Melinda
