Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to a new school year at Audie Murphy Middle School! Whether your student is joining the Falcon family for the first time or returning for another year, we are excited to partner with you in making this a year of growth and success.

This year, our campus theme is “Grounded in GRIT. Ready to Soar.” GRIT represents the values that will guide our work throughout the year: Growth, Relationships, Integrity, and Teamwork. When students develop perseverance, build meaningful relationships, act with integrity, and work together, they are prepared to take on challenges and reach new heights.

Throughout the school year, we will work to help students understand what it means to demonstrate GRIT both in and outside of the classroom. We want our Falcons to set meaningful goals, persevere when learning becomes challenging, celebrate their progress, and recognize that growth comes from consistent effort. Being Ready to Soar means that we want every Falcon to recognize their potential and understand that their habits and the choices they make each day prepare them for success—in middle school, high school, and beyond.

The staff at Audie Murphy Middle School is excited and ready to welcome our students! We also recognize that our families are essential partners in this work. We encourage you to stay connected throughout the year by reading campus communications, attending family events, communicating with your student's teachers, and celebrating your student's progress along the way.

Together, we can create a school community where every student feels supported, challenged, and empowered to reach their highest potential.

If you have questions or need support throughout the year, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are proud to serve our students, families, and community, and we look forward to an incredible year together!

With Falcon Pride,
Christina Harris
Principal
Audie Murphy Middle School

What to Expect on the First Day - Arrival and Dismissal What to Expect on the First Day - Arrival and Dismissal

Morning - All Students

  • Doors open at 7:30 AM
  • Students will enter the building at the locations designated on the map below.
    • Bus Riders, Athletes with gym bags, and Band students with instruments will enter on the west side of the building near the gym (Yellow star).
    • Walkers and students who are dropped off will enter on the south side of the building (Blue star).
  • Students who want breakfast will be directed to the cafeteria
  • 6th grade students will pick up their their schedules in the cafeteria.
  • 7th and 8th grade students will pick up their schedules in the gym.
  • Some students will have ID cards to pick up on the first day. Students who registered after July 19th will have to take photos prior to getting their ID cards. We will be taking photos this week.
  • Students will remain in the gym or cafeteria until directed to move to 1st period. Teachers will be there to escort them to the classroom.

As students enter, they are expected:

  • Be in dress code
  • Wear their student ID (once it's issued)
  • Have a clear or mesh backpack
  • Power off all cell phones and electronic devices and place them out of sight. We will be issuing YONDR pouches beginning on Tuesday. Once they have a pouch, the devices should be secured in their pouch each day.
  • Walk through the Entry Shield System

Entry Shield Screening Process

Students will walk through an Entry Shield System daily as they enter the building. If the system alerts, the student will be directed to a designated area where they will be screened using a Garrett Handheld Wand and their bag will be serched in accordance with KISD procedures. This safety process may create delays in our entry as we begin the year; however, we anticipate the delays to decrease as students understand the process better.

After School - All Students

  • The last bell rings at 3:37 PM. We do offer supper service in the cafeteria, so students will have access to this starting at 3:37PM. They will have to eat the food in the cafeteria and will not be allowed to take it with them.
  • Walkers and car riders will exit the building first from the same door that they entered.
  • Bus riders will remain in their 9th period classroom until their bus number is announced. They will then exit from the same door where they entered in the morning.
    • Bus Transportation will pick students up on the west side of the building.
  • Car Riders will wait for parents along the sidewalk on the south side of the school

Clear Expectations Ensure a Successful Start and a Great Year! Clear Expectations Ensure a Successful Start and a Great Year!

We want to keep our Falcons learning and growing here at AMMS, so please take time to talk with your students about the KISD Student Code of Conduct and the impact and consequences of their choices. Discipline is about teaching responsibility, accountability, and respect for others. When students understand expectations and take ownership of their actions, they are better able to stay focused on learning and enjoy a safe, positive school environment.
