Exciting Updates from Our ML Classroom! Exciting Updates from Our ML Classroom!

Dear Parent ,

I hope this newsletter finds you well! I am excited to share some updates and highlights from our ML (Multilingual learner) classes. Your children have been working hard, and I am proud of their progress! We finished ACCESS Testing in February and all of your kids worked hard! Please congratulate your child for taking their time and taking the test series.

What We’ve Been Learning:

· Speaking & Listening: What we have been learning:

· Speaking and listening

· Reading & Writing: Exploring new vocabulary, reading short stories, and developing writing skills.

· Grammar & Vocabulary: Learning new words and sentence structures to improve communication.

Upcoming Events & Important Dates:

· Parent-Teacher Conference: 3/5/25 and 3/6/25

· Homework & Practice Tips: Encourage your child to read at home and practice speaking English daily. Some of your children bring home vocabulary words to study.

How You Can Help at Home:

· Read with your child in English and your native language.

· Encourage conversations in English about their daily activities.

· Use language learning apps or watch educational programs together.

The Importance of Maintaining the Native Language: Research shows that a strong foundation in a child’s native language supports the development of English skills. Children who continue to develop their first language tend to have better cognitive flexibility, stronger literacy skills, and greater academic success. Speaking the native language at home strengthens family connections and helps children become bilingual, which is an asset in today’s world.

Thank you for your support in your child’s learning journey. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s progress, feel free to reach out!

¡Actualizaciones emocionantes de nuestra aula de ML! ¡Actualizaciones emocionantes de nuestra aula de ML!

Estimado padre,

Conferencia de padres y maestros:3/5/25 and 3/6/25

Atentamente,

Alex Magness

Dear Haskin Elementary School Parent; /Estimados padres de un alumno de Haskin Elementary School:

Our school is participating in a school climate survey conducted by the Center for the

Study and Prevention of Violence (CSPV) at the University of Colorado. The purpose

of this survey is to identify the strengths and needs of our school regarding school

safety and violence prevention. The results will help us identify areas needing

improvement and develop strategies to address those needs. In addition to surveying

the students, we want to gain the perspective of all parents and guardians who have

children who attend our school.

The survey is anonymous and is taken through a secure online server. Your

participation is completely voluntary. The survey can be completed in approximately

15 minutes. Only one survey per family needs to be completed. Our goal is that at

least 80% of households complete the survey. Response rates below 80% cannot be

considered representative of the total population of parents and guardians.

It is very important that once you log in to the survey that you complete it in one

sitting. Logging out of the survey will end the session, and you will not be able to log

back in to the same survey in order to complete it.

To participate in the survey, go to the following link:

https://www.safe-schools.org/school-climate/parent/?b=766542-19629

If you do not have access to a computer to complete the survey, please let me or

Katrina Ruggles know and we will make arrangements to give you access to one of the

school’s computers. If you need to take the survey in Spanish, you will see links in the

upper right-hand corner of the survey page for both English and Spanish.

You will have approximately two weeks to complete the survey. After all the data has

been collected, researchers at CSPV will analyze the data and issue a summary report.

Thank you for your participation in this important survey!

Sincerely,

Krystal Bouet, Haskin Elementary School

https://www.safe-schools.org/school-climate/parent/?b=766542-19629

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We are asking permission for your student to participate in an online survey that will be administered during the 2024-2025 school year. All students in grades 3-5 are being invited to participate.

The purpose of the survey is to investigate the conditions that exist at your student’s school. Topics include bullying and violence at school; the relationships children have with their parents and teachers; and drug, alcohol or cigarette use by students and their peers. You can see a copy of your student’s survey here:
Test site link:
https://bit.ly/3giRYQx Enter code: 766542

Once you access the test site and enter the school code, select the “Students” survey and click on the ‘continue’ button. You will need to click on “I assent” at the bottom of the page to access the survey. You do not need to enter any data, just click through each page to view the items included on the survey.

The survey will be conducted anonymously. Any and all research information that is collected will be protected against all forms of disclosure, except as required by court order. The identities of all survey participants will not be recorded, and any information that could lead to the identification of individual students completing the survey will be removed.

This survey has no direct risks or benefits to your student. It is hoped that this survey and related research efforts will provide benefits to schools in the form of improved knowledge on the origins, dynamics, and impacts of school violence and on ways to make our schools safer in the face of increased violence.

Research indicates that when schools experience violence, substance use and bullying, learning is hampered, academic performance declines, absenteeism increases and the general well-being of both children and teachers is diminished. This survey allows your student’s school the opportunity to identify its strengths and challenges, and to address problem areas, which could lead to increased academic performance as well as improved well-being for students and staff.

Your student’s participation in this survey is voluntary and without compensation, and he or she may refuse to answer any specific question in the survey. If your student wishes to withdraw from the survey, he or she may do so at any time without giving any reason or explanation. If he or she chooses to withdraw from the survey, any information he or she may have provided prior to withdrawing will not be used.

You have the right to decline your student’s participation in the survey if you wish. If you do decline, your student will be allowed to read, complete school assignments or participate in an alternative activity while the survey is being administered.

The survey is being conducted by our school through an agreement with the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence (CSPV) at the University of Colorado, Boulder. If you have any questions regarding the survey, please feel free to contact Sabrina Arredondo Mattson, PhD at 303-735-1633.

Please check the box below if you DO NOT want your student to participate in the survey and send the letter back to school.

Estimados padres/tutores:

From Mr. Swanson:

Mindfulness is a regular part of our music classroom. We use mindfulness to relax, stay calm and remain focused.

“Mindfulness is teaching students to be present in the moment, being aware of how they feel, what they're thinking, the condition of their body and the state of their surroundings. All these things should be observed and labeled without judgment or criticism; there are no right or wrong feelings. When students have identified their feelings and where their energy is going, they can redirect their focus. As mindfulness increases, students will gain perspective and the ability to respond to a situation intentionally rather than automatically.”

-Krista Hart, The Mindful Music Classroom

Important Information About ACCESS Testing for English Language Learners

Important Information About ACCESS Testing for English Language Learners

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to inform you about an upcoming assessment that is essential for understanding and supporting your child’s academic growth. The ACCESS for ELLs is an annual test designed to measure English language proficiency for students who are identified as English learners (ELs). If your child will be taking this test you should have received a letter in the mail.

What is ACCESS Testing? The ACCESS test evaluates your child’s skills in four key areas of language development:

1. Listening

2. Speaking

3. Reading

4. Writing

This assessment provides valuable information about how well your child is progressing in acquiring academic English and helps educators tailor instruction to meet their individual needs.

Why is ACCESS Testing Important?

· It helps us determine the level of support your child may need to succeed in their academic studies.

· It informs decisions about existing English language support programs.

· It ensures compliance with federal and state requirements for monitoring English learners' progress.

When and Where Will the Test Take Place?

· Dates: January 13th through February 14th.

· Location: Center Consolidated School district

The test will be administered during the school day, and all necessary materials will be provided. The results will be shared with you once they are available, along with an explanation of your child’s performance.

How Can You Help Your Child Prepare?

1. Encourage Regular Attendance: Being present and on time during testing days is crucial.

2. Promote Good Rest and Nutrition: A well-rested and nourished student performs better on tests.

3. Practice English at Home: Encourage your child to read, speak, and write in English daily, while also

celebrating and supporting their home language.

If you have any questions about the ACCESS test or your child’s participation, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to support your child’s academic journey and ensure they receive the resources they need to thrive.

Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Magness

¿Cómo Puedes Ayudar A Tu Hijo A Prepararse?

Parents Thank you for all your support / Padres Gracias por todo su apoyo

As the 2024-2025 school year begins, the Center Consolidated School District extends a warm welcome to all students. We are grateful for the dedicated volunteer Crossing Guards who ensure the safety of our students as they cross the street in the mornings and after school. We kindly remind all Center families and students to adhere to the "Stop" rule and stop whenever a Crossing Guard in a yellow or pink vest, holding a red stop sign, is present in the crosswalk. Observing the 15mph speed limit in the school zone is crucial for everyone’s safety. The Crossing Guards are on duty along Broadway St. in the school zone area from 7:35 a.m. to 7:50 a.m. and from 3:50 p.m. to approximately 4:05 p.m. We also ask for cooperation in refraining from peeling in the school zone and avoiding parking in the drop-off, bus, and emergency lines. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone.

Thank you for all your support.
