The Sheiko Weekly Update
Sheiko Elementary: March 13, 2026
PRINCIPAL UPDATE
Dear Sheiko Families,
Thank you again for your kindness, patience, and understanding on Thursday. Your support and flexibility mean so much to our staff and help us keep our school community safe and organized. After reflecting on the day, I wanted to share a few helpful reminders that make a big difference during situations when we need to move quickly and communicate clearly.
If you are a car line family, having your car line sign clearly displayed in your window was extremely helpful. Please also be sure that your phone number in PowerSchool is current so you can receive text messages from the district, and continue to check your email for important updates. Keeping dismissal plans the same whenever possible is also very helpful, as changes during busy times can create confusion. Finally, please remember that you cannot pick up another child unless that child’s parent has communicated permission directly to the school ahead of time. In emergency situations, we are not able to accommodate those requests.
This week’s “Big Announcement” is about our next school wide read-aloud: The Frindle Files! This is one of our Pine Tree books, and I had the chance to read the first chapter to every class today. We will continue the story together next week during our evening Zoom read-alouds. Please see the flyer for the dates. We will use the same Zoom link as before, and we will always begin reading at 7:30 p.m.
I also spoke with all classes about a helpful strategy for handling conflict called “The Why Message.” This strategy encourages students to use their words to explain how they feel and what they would like to happen. For example: “I feel frustrated when you cut in line. Can you please go back to your spot?” It’s a simple but powerful way for students to communicate and solve problems respectfully. Be sure to ask your child about it!
Thank you again for all that you do to support Sheiko and our students.
Gooooooooooooo Lakers!

DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP
It has come to our attention that there are group messages occurring among many 5th grade students. Other grades have lots of "chatting" going on during video games that is becoming very hurtful and spilling over into school friendships. Here are other resources as well: https://www.commonsense.org/education/family-resources
Thank you for partnering with us to keep everyone safe online!
