Odyssey of the Mind Open Call for Auditions

Do you have a 3rd or 4th grade student interested in joining an Odyssey of the Mind team at Duval Charter School at Southside? If so, we have two available spaces on the 3rd grade team. All other teams are currently full with returning team members from previous years, but we are always open to students who would like to serve as Interns. Read on for more information:

Auditions: To audition for the 3rd grade team, students must be in 3rd or 4th grade, hard-working, maintain A/B honor roll, and have excellent attendance records. If this sounds like your child, and you would like to have him/her audition, please email Mrs. Blenker at rblenker@southsidecharter.org for details. Open auditions will be held on Tuesday, 11/5/19 at 3:30 pm in room 226. IF your child makes the team, there is a cost of $80 to cover the cost of materials, and a contract is signed to confirm your commitment to the team.

Interns: Odyssey can be incredibly stressful, especially when it’s new. Serving as an Intern/Manager is a great way to get introduced to the program and learn about it before auditioning the next school year. If your child is hard-working, maintains A/B honor roll, and has excellent attendance records, and you would like to have him/her apply, please email Mrs. Blenker at rblenker@southsidecharter.org for details. We can accept one intern/manager per team (a total of 3 interns).

!IMPORTANT! Early Release and Half Days !IMPORTANT!

Please review the district calendar ...

PURPLE days are EARLY RELEASE days- K-5th: 12:45 p.m and Middle: 1:00 p.m

ORANGE DAYS are HALF DAYS- students leave at 12:00 p.m and there is NO AFTERCARE!

The 3 HALF DAYS are scheduled on....

November 26th 2019

December 19th 2019

May 29th 2020

We are having to hire additional personnel to supervise students left behind on Early Release Days, as after-care is full on most days. After the 30 min pick up window, a $15 fee will be assessed. Elementary pick up is 12:45-1:15. Middle School (w/ elem. siblings) is 1:00-1:30.

On Oct. 30th, we had 42 children still waiting at 1:45pm, a full hour after school dismissed and when the staff was in a faculty meeting and professional development session. Aftercare can not absorb 42 late pick ups. We will be billing the $15 late fee and hiring additional staff/substitute teachers for Early Release Days.

Lunch Time Switch Lunch Time Switch

zoom_out_map

K & 1st switching time

To do what is best for students academically, we are making a switch of two grade levels' lunch times. K and 1st grade teachers proposed a switch as they each had about a 20 min period in their day where it was difficult to use well for instruction due to transitions.

Starting Tuesday, 10/22, Kinder lunch will be at 11:03- 11:28 a.m & 1st grade lunch will be at 11:26- 11:51 a.m. Please keep this in mind when planning for a lunch visit!
