OUSD Gradual Release of Artificial Intelligence by Grade Level
OUSD is preparing students to use AI thoughtfully and responsibly β not all at once, but grade by grade, with the right guardrails at every step to ensure students are prepared to be critical consumers and responsible users of AI.
Elementary (TKβ5): Students do not have direct access to AI. Learning focuses on teacher-led demonstrations in TKβ2 and hands-on, real-world activities in grades 3β5.
Middle School (6β8): Students begin using AI directly, learning to evaluate its answers and spot potential bias.
High School (9β12): Students actively use, design, and cite AI tools to prepare for college and future careers.
This gradual release model ensures our students become critical thinkers and responsible users of technology every step of the way.
Lost and Found
Our lost and found cart is getting full! Every Friday the cart will be placed in front of the office so that you can help your child locate any lost items. After the last Friday of the month, any items that are left will be donated.
Positive Behavior at Foussat
Building Positive Habits Together
Our students are doing a fantastic job practicing our school-wide expectations! To keep this positive momentum going, our scholars will be focusing on our SOAR habits as they learn how to navigate the school safely and respectfully.
Our SOAR Habits:
S - Safe
O - Outstanding
A - Accountable
R - Respectful
You can help support us at home by reminding your children to:
- Listen actively and respectfully during group learning. For TK-2, this means sitting nicely on the carpet. For 3rd-5th, this means giving their full attention to the speaker and respecting peers during group discussions
- Walk safely, face forward, and stay with your group when moving through the hallways.
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our students SOAR every day!
Thank you for your support with the Pulsera Project!π

For Safety of all our students and families, we ask that parents and guardians drive slowly and carefully through all parking areas and during student pick up and drop-off.
π School arrival is between 7:45β8:15 AM.
Students should arrive on campus during this time and go directly to their designated area.
For everyone's safety, students are expected to follow all school rules and safety expectations while traveling to and from school.
Please help us keep our arrival and dismissal process moving safely and efficiently.
When dropping off or picking up by car:
- π Use the right lane for student drop-off and pick-up.
- β‘οΈ Drive forward as far as possible before your child exits or enters the vehicle.
- πͺ Students should enter or exit the vehicle quickly through a right-side door.
- π Drivers must remain in their vehicles during drop-off and pick-up.
- πΆ Please use sidewalks and crosswalks and remind your children to do the same.
- All TK and Kindergarten students should continue to be walked to the primary gate everyday, unless they are with older siblings. Children need to be able to independently exit and enter the car.
All individuals who pick up students before or after dismissal MUST:
- park in a parking space before coming into the office

Previous Reminders
There is much more information available to support you throughout the school year. We have attached our Parent/Guardian Handbook (English) on which serve as a helpful reference for school policies, procedures, programs, and supports.
The handbook includes information about school hours and calendars, arrival and dismissal, attendance, health services, communication, behavior expectations, student supports, dress code, visitors and volunteers, field trips, electronic devices, and more. We encourage families to review the handbook and keep it available as a resource throughout the year.
We know there is a lot of information to take in at the beginning of the year, so we will continue to share important reminders throughout the school year. For now, please focus on the arrival and safety procedures shared in this newsletter, and use the Parent/Guardian Handbook as your go-to resource for additional information.
Safety Tips for Pedestrians and Bicyclists
Arrival & Dismissal Safety
Please follow all posted signs and staff directions during pick-up and drop-off. Use designated lanes, avoid double parking, and stay alert for students crossing. Your cooperation helps keep everyone safe. Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety
- Use marked crosswalks and follow traffic signals.
- Make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
- Wear a properly fitted helmet when riding a bicycle or e-bike.
- Ride with traffic, obey signs and signals, and use lights or reflective gear when visibility is low.
- Drivers should watch for pedestrians and cyclists, yield when required, and allow safe passing distance.
E-Bike Safety
All OUSD students who plan to ride and park an E-Bike on any district campus will need to go through the free E-Bike process. This helps promote safe biking habits and ensures students are prepared to ride responsibly to and from school and school-sponsored events.
Please note: Only middle and high school students will receive a permit sticker to park their E-Bike on campus.
Steps to follow:
Complete a liability waiver- completed in data confirmation
Take the OUSD-approved E-Bike Safety Course (CHP Online Certification)
Submit the Online Bicycle Permit Application with a parent or guardian
(Recommended) Register the E-Bike for free on Project 529 in case it is lost or stolen.
E-Bike Safety (AB 544):
New Requirement: All E-bikes are now required to have a red reflector or red rear light (solid or flashing) visible from 500 feet at all times.
Thank you for supporting student safety in our school community!
